Replacement powerhead for CSM: 090 or 084?

Sounds like you need new AV mounts for your 075. I've milled over 200 slabs with that same saw running a 42" bar, all without losing parts off the saw.

Whats a complete CSM kit worth?

I've always milled through because it is faster to do with a chainsaw when milling on location. Around here that type of board is referrd to as either a live edge board, a live edge slab, or just a slab, very trendy lately too.

Whats a complete CSM kit worth?

No offence taken. I was hoping that I might be able to get $1,000 for the lot so $800 isn't that far off. I think it will be a hard sell partly because many people have no idea what either of my saws are and think the 051 is some dinky fire wood saw instead of the 89cc beast that it is. I've...

Whats a complete CSM kit worth?

No one around here is burning 36" wide 2" thick slabs of walnut. If you are calling the cap cut, or the first cut of a log, a slab then yeah that's fire wood and not what I have. Take a look at my avitar and if you are selling that for $100/cord then I'll take one of walnut, an one of olive.

Whats a complete CSM kit worth?

Lately I've been toying with the idea of selling my milling set up. I'm 54 and have a stockpile of 200 slabs so I think I can stop milling and concentrate on using the wood. So whats a fair price ? Here is a list of what I'll sell....if I sell: Stihl 075 powerhead- in great shape Stihl 051...

    Sticker Stain :(

The only way I know of to completely eliminate sticker stain in sycamore is to dry it standing on end. You stand the slabs a close to vertical as you can and space them a inch or two apart at the base and use blocks of poly styrene at the top. I trim the ends after they are dry so I use "L"...

    Sthil 075AV muffler and milling

The screen is a spark arrester and you really should have one since you will be shooting the exhaust from the saw into a pile of sawdust. the other muffler without a screen is for the TS 760 which is the same powerhead but set up with a diamond wheel for cutting concrete. I use the same saw for...

    Newbie questions

I run .404 on my 075 and I've never taken the 42" bar off that saw or wished I had a different bar for it so the loops of milling chain I have for it only go on that bar and that saw. I run 3/8 on my 038 magnum II and at one time I had a 32" bar for it but now I only run a 20" bar and wouldn't...

    Slab Flattening Fixture: build thread

I've had borzoi for over 20 years, always at least 2 and for a short time as many as 5. They are a fantastic breed, very laid back and easy going. Even when owning several they are strongly bonded to their owners and very affectionate. They really don't require much room as long as they get...

Thanks. I have Borzoi. I've hunted with them in the past but with the two I have now I do mostly racing

Crosscut sycamore minimum thickness for splitting

PEG = polyethylene glycol, or more specifically polyethylene glycol 1000. The 1000 refers to the molecular weight. the wood must be freshly cut and it is then soaked in the PEG. It eventually replaces the water so there is no shrinkage and therefore no cracking. The drawback is cost and it...

Upgrading milling saw but really just adding another

You asked about older torkey saws with parts availability. Ive never had a problem getting parts for my 075. Its been out of production for a long time as a chain saw but it was available until not too long ago in the form of the ts 760 which is a concrete saw. Most of the parts for the ts 760...

MS 070 clone, anyone have luck?

When these first hit the market Bailey's was selling them. They touted them as being exact copies and the parts were supposed to inter change with OEM, they even had OEM looking name plates on them . They had a pretty high profile bit on their web site about traveling to the factory and working...

    chain breaking

I've broken 3/8 .50 before but I've never broken .404 .63. With .404 hitting something that will snap a 3/8 chain will break teeth off of a .404 but it won't break it. The difference in kerf is only about .010" (.25mm) so in my mind its not worth not using .404 , particularly with a big powerhead

    Slab Flattening Fixture: build thread

At one point I considered building a bandmill or something like a Procut but I started milling so I would have wood to use not to sell and with the stockpile I have I'm concentrating my time on using up the wood I have rather than milling more. I still mill wood with my chainsaw but it has to...

    Slab Flattening Fixture: build thread

I should probably start by saying that I had an immediate need to flatten a 33" x 10' slab of claro walnut. Other than that there were several reasons I built what I did and the way I did: First off I have a very small shop and have no outdoor paved area to work on. My shop space is so small...

Newbie here, need advice on chainsaw selection.

You might want to consider cutting your slabs a bit thicker. I cut most stuff I mill at 2 1/4" thick and by the time its dry it shrinks down to a bit over 2". After surfacing those slabs that I mill at 2 1/4" inch finish out at 1 3/4"- 1 7/8" depending on the amount of warp, and that is for a...

    Slab Flattening Fixture: build thread

So the Binford Slabmaster 6100 is finally up and running. It took a bit if fiddling to get it set up the first time but wasn't too difficult to get dead flat. The 2x3" tubing that I used for my top rail is actually pretty straight, maybe not certified granite surface plate flat, but certainly...

Okay, seriously need help getting this old stihl running

They both have the same size bore but the 051 has a longer stroke giving it more torque and a displacement of 89cc. the 051 and 075 share many parts. I was just wondering if Stihl shared parts from other saws too.
