icicle hitch ,tell me how it performs for you

I guess it is hard to get a feel for a persons tone when they are typing, so I'm guessing by your use of smileys that your joking. I suppose next to guys who have been doing this 30 years someone who has been at this for "just" 8 years is a noob.

icicle hitch ,tell me how it performs for you

I ride on that hitch on a regular basis. I like it, but as others have stated, it does get a bit tight at times. Still better than a blakes or tautline for me.

line clearance guys just make me laugh!

I can't speak for that location but people need to understand that 99% of the time(at least on the crews around me) when you see work like that it is at the homeowner or Utility foresters Request(demand is more like it). I can only try and convince a homeowner that it would be best to remove a...

line clearance guys just make me laugh!

You guys paint with an awfully broad brush don't you. you ever think that those line clearance guys do a hell of a good job given what they have to work with. how many trees do you guys trim on an average day? 5? 10? I do residential work too and each aspect of arborist work has unique...

    Yup, another new guy here..

I realize that this will come across as me just being an A-hole, but if the limb is as simple as you seem to think it is there is NO WAY you are going to buy all the gear you need to do this safely for less than a local pro would charge unless you are getting raped on price. decent saddle...

    Opinion needed

Why not buy one set of climbing sticks and use those instead. no damage to the tree, and you can just pack them in and out when you hunt each stand. it will also make your stands slightly harder to steal if you take the steps with you. Also, I would get a "linemans belt" setup from HSS or one of...

28" bar is starting to loosen up/break in...YAY!

Are you sure you got the right chain for that bar? It sounds like an .058 chain in an .050 bar, or an .063 chain in an .058 bar. Chain should fit snug, but move freely. there should be no "break in" other than the initial stretch of the chain. At least, not in my experience.

    Removing trees around power lines

Are you Line Clearance Qualified? If not, Minimum Approach Distance is 10ft. The Linemen here will do service drops for free. Better than re-connecting a downed line.

    The one handed debate...

Same thing you would tell a 15yo kid with a fresh learners permit while he was climbing into an F1 car. You need to crawl before you challenge Marion Jones to a hundred yard footrace.

Do you have a set of quick disconnects for a hydraulic tool up next to the bucket? we use a short length of hydraulic hose and just let it circulate to warm up the system.
