    New saw

Looking for a lighter 50-60cc saw that will Still pull a 20” bar. I’m partial to Stihl’s (have an 880 that I love but use mostly for milling and big bucking) and was looking at the ms261 or ms362. Currently have a rancher 455 As my medium duty bucking saw and I’m not too fond of it. My wife...

    Pear wood: worth it?

Hey all, got a call from a tree guy I’ve gotten logs from before. Says he’s got 2 10’ long ~28”-30” diameter pear logs coming down next Monday. Never milled pear or seen it for sale. Is it worth an hour drive? Any help would be appreciated!

A little Ambrosia maple this weekend

Milled up this ambrosia maple on Saturday. Came out awesome. I still have the logs in the pictures below to mill. Even the leaders are 24+ in diameter. Luckily I stumbled on his ad on Facebook before someone could get at them and turn them to firewood. I’ll post more pics as I...

My $65000 cigarette lighter (Powerstroke diesel)

I have to say guys I’m pretty disappointed with my 2014 6.7 Powerstroke. I bought the truck used with 70k miles on it, less than a year ago. It currently has 74,xxx miles on it. ( got lucky and had 2 big jobs in a row, very close to home) about 3-4 months after I bought it I had a check engine...

    Older medium duty diesel trucks

I’m a general contractor for my day job, sell slabs and firewood on the side. I have a 92 f350 flatbed. It’s lacking some capacity and I’m looking to upgrade to something a little larger. I’d also like a dump bed (not a mason dump) I’m looking at f450/f550’s and they’re pretty pricey. My...

What size CSM do you guys run?

I’m in the process of getting my chainsaw milling equipment where I want it. I’ve got an 880 with the 41” bar and I’m looking into longer bars now. Just curious what size mills y’all run. Ps I’m debating between a 60” and 72” bar

    Long bar options

hey all, having some trouble finding the right bar for my 880. I bought it New with a 41” to mill my small/medium logs with, a 25” just to have and cut occasionally with. I’m looking for a 60-66” (72” seems a bit overkill for what I encounter realistically) bar exclusively to mill with. - I...

    Double ended milling bars

Hey all, I recently bought a new ms880 and a 42” bar to replace the 660 I had w/ 42” bar. I figured that would handle everything I was milling previously but I have a 44” cherry log and a few 50” + logs at a friends lot so I’m looking for a 66” double ended bar w/ helper handle. Not exactly sure...

    Ms-880 vs husky 3120xp

So I’ve been tossing around the idea of buying a big boy saw to mill with now that I sold the 660. I’m having trouble deciding which saw to get, I’ve had stihl and huskys. So the husky is 1399 and the stihl is 1799. Is the stihl worth the extra $400 bucks? I think I prefer the stihl over...

    Ez boardwalk 40

So ive been considering getting a bandsaw mill for stuff under 36" wide, which is 95% of what I'm milling. I do mostly live edge slabs because I use a chainsaw mill, and dimensional lumber is a major PITA with it. I'm looking for a "budget" mill that will cut somewhere around 40" wide. I'll...

    Ms660 compression?

I've had my 660 for about a year and a half now and it's been awesome. Bought it used from a big tree service. It ran very well, compression was about 155psi if I remember correctly, it was definitely higher than 150psi. Fast forward to last weekend, I was milling a 32" white oak that's 13'...

    Clamp on pallet forks

hey guys, Considering getting a set of the Titan clamp on pallet forks. My uncle had an old rusty no name set on his old Deere. Seemed ok, definitely sketchy with more than a ton on them. These look sturdier. I doubt I'll ever have more than 1,500 lbs on them though. Anybody else run clamp on...

    School me on firewood tractors

Hey guys, I'm currently in the market for a compact/ small/ maybe a medium sized firewood tractor. I have a couple of ads up on some boards and Craigslist. I'm looking for a tractor with a front end loader. I have no money (I'm getting married, so I have money, just very little for a tractor)...

What's everybody's favorite wood to mill?

So as the title states, whats everybody's favorite wood to mill? Just curious to see what everyone else prefers... I personally like white oak and maple. I just like the colors and figuring most of the slabs I mill have. Makes for some good looking stuff! What do you all like to mill the best?

    Semi permanent storage

im looking for semi permanent storage options, not wanting to spend a ton of money. I want to keep some slabs and a lawn mower, my CSM and some hickory and apple wood for my smoker. Ideally I'd like a 14x30 but id take a 10x20 standard size carport. I'm in the north east so snow loads are a...

    Cheapest CSM setup?

Me and my buddy were talking about chainsaw milling and I said how (relatively) cheap it is to get into compared to a bandsaw or a legit sawmill setup. He disagreed with me. He thinks you need ~$2,000 to get setup with a saw, mill, bar, and 2-3 chains and a ladder or something to make your first...
