    Kohler Engine Quality ?

Had 4300 hours on Kohler 25hp on a 2003 252 before selling it. Currently have 3185 hrs on a 2013 292 w/ the Kohler 26.5 EFI. Had to replace gasket on output shaft cover and one coil, prob uses 1/4 qt of oil between 100 hr changes, using AMSOIL. So far I'm sold on Kohler small blocks anyway...

    Vermeer 372 operator presence system?

Have you verified that the problem is with the operator presence system and not with the clutch itself? I just replaced a Vermeer clutch that had some kind of short in it that when the clutch got heated up it would not engage unless you tapped on the clutch cover, strange but they do go bad...

List of Upgrades to Vermeer SC252

Never had to do it, but must be. should be at the control station. Should be a nut you loosen, then either a screwdriver or allen head bolt you turn clockwise I believe to increase pressure. I don't have my manuals anymore for the 252. Any hydro shop will know how.

Only problem was traction, wheels would always spin. Even if you put them up against a tall curb, would always spin them on dry pavement (not recommended to do for very long, just a torque check I would do). So may be a pressure issue for you. Stumper63

List of Upgrades to Vermeer SC252

Never had a problem with torque that I recall, you might have a faulty pump going on. Or check your hydraulic pressure with a gauge, may need to adjust. I remember demoing a new Carlton 4012 back in 07 at their factory. A 4wd unit, wouldn't climb a little hill. The guy was embarrassed. Went...

List of Upgrades to Vermeer SC252

Did you already change the hydro pump pulley like is shown on this thread? I replaced mine just the next size down to increase the pump speed. Helped a lot. Some guys went even smaller, but made their pumps squeal. I also put a one or two tooth larger sprocket on the drive motor, helped...

Hydraulic pump is what you want, right? It's a Parker brand. SN: J0413-07231. PN: 3319122061 Probably proprietary too, LOL stumper63

The number is on a Link Belt tag. It may be possible that it is a BS... instead of a B5..., you could try that. Possible it is a proprietary bearing Link Belt makes for Vermeer. Shaft is quite a bit different on the 292. Are you close to a Vermeer dealer? Perhaps they stock them and you...

List of Upgrades to Vermeer SC252

The bearings on the 292 I get from Vermeer, but the tag on them says Link Belt B5227053. They are a double bearing, so much wider than the 252 bearing. Also a lot more expensive, $230 ea I think last time. But for the longer wear and less hassle of multiple replacements they are great. And...

List of Upgrades to Vermeer SC252

Hey Arboristo, Yeah, the 750 hrs on cutter wheel bearings is on the 292, they are a much beefier double bearing. I used to get between 450-500 hrs on the 252 with the 35hp. I always used the Vermeer bearings, which were about $85 each or so, not the $25 ones on ebay that fit, but are built a...

List of Upgrades to Vermeer SC252

Hey Ross, I sure had a different experience when I put the 35hp Vanguard on my 252. Had no noticeable difference in wear between the 25hp Kohler and the 35hp Briggs. Cutter wheel bearings lasted 400-500 hrs, belts lasted the same, never a crack in any welds or frame parts. Wonder if there was...

    Took the plunge

Have fun Ken, you won't regret it. Making the new plate and adding a piece of angle iron for it is probably the biggest milestone for ya, after that just bolt it up and go. My 292 has about 2K hrs now, so one day will be upgrading it too. Might get a Kohler 38 EFI to compare with the Vanguard...

    Hydraulic Drive Motor for SC292

Seems I've got a slow hydraulic fluid leak out of the shaft, behind the sprocket of the drive wheel motor on my Vermeer SC292. Chain getting lubricated in the wrong way, lol. Vermeer wants $1,412 for a new one. They don't offer a rebuild kit. Seems like a lot of coin for a 4" x 8" motor...

Vermeer retrofit to the old 1/2 inch teeth

You can get that size diamond wheel from Keith at Alpine Machine in Olympia WA. Expensive, about $135, but last a few years in my experience. Stumper63

    RG1625 vs RG1635

The 25hp is a small block, 35 hp is a big block engine. So not quite a direct replacement, clutch prob different too. But having done a changeout on a 252 from a 25 to a 35 the diff is huge. If you can afford the 35 get it.

    New stump grinder

That sure wasn't my experience with Kohler. Had a 2003 SC252 with the 25hp Kohler. Had over 4,300 hours on it when I sold it and was still running good. Never did a thing to that engine except all the routine maintenance. Started to use some oil at about 3000 hours, but prob no more than a...

    Stump grinder chip containment ideas.

Bought the StumpRGuard 7 or so years ago, love the fabric, the frame was too weak and way too many sliding parts. I think they've changed pole systems now, don't know for sure. For last three years I've bought orange construction fence poly fabric off Ebay, 5' tall x 15' long, for about $35...
