Nice work!!! Cracking comes with Woodworking, even on dry wood as it exposes areas to new moisture. My advice is to work with as dry wood as you can. Finish carving and stain and then seal as quickly and thoroughly as possible. Thompson's waterseal works ok, but leaves a matte finish. I use...

    My mills

Thanks for sharing your experiences. It's great when people share what they are going through, and let other's see . If the next saw you get is going to be strictly for milling, I'd recommend getting as large as you can manage. When it comes down to it, there's no real substitute for cubic...

    Input and advice

A 395 is definitely a good saw to mill with. Depending on which Grandberg you have you might need to get a different bar. Price wise I can't help as I don't know what they are going for.

    Drying cookies in my oven

So you'd be better off using a small room , fan an dehumidifier than an oven. They are generally way to hot. You want to be at around 115-150 depending on airflow. Most ovens "warm" setting is around 180-200. They will violently check if the temp is to high and you might end up with firewood...

Best way to air dry log slabs?

So I've found that if you dry them too fast they check (crack) like all get out. Sticking and stacking in a windy place is great if you have the time to let the wood dry. If you need you wood faster, then look into building a solar kiln. There are good plans available for free on the web.
