My Stihl 075 died, need advice

Im pretty sure those bars are not gonna fit the 090 or the husky. If ur gonna buy a used saw you should be looking in the classifieds on this site. A lot of great sellers on here that you can count on not selling you a piece of junk. If you don't know a lot about small engines you can easily be...

    LT15 for a side business?

No slabs with the Lucas unless you purchase the slabing attachment for it. Which is a nice chunk of change additionally. Looks sweet but very expensive.

    Reading chips...

Yeah you won't see normal chips when milling. Cut time will depend on tons of variables from wood type to the way you sharpen your chain. Get the log up off the ground and set it up at a nice angle so the weight of the saw and mill can help feed itself down the log. As you learn more and get...

Looking at 090 and milling setup

Only some basic parts are usually available through a dealer and even that is only if you are lucky. More often than not you won't be able to get you what you need without some pretty serious searching. And all the parts will cost you top dollar for oem.

    LT15 for a side business?

A Lucas mill would definitely do the trick. It all depends on the type and size lumber you want. The bandsaw will be able to cut big beams where the Lucas will be limited to 8x8's I believe. But it will cut 2x's way faster than any band mill in the same price range will.

Looking at 090 and milling setup

As far as price if the saw is in good shape I'd say it's worth $900 on up depending actual condition when u inspect it. I've seen them sell recently for as much as $1600 in my area for a decent one. A friend has two in great shape and isn't looking to sell but told me $1900 would buy one if I...

Looking at 090 and milling setup

If the 090 is in good shape it is worth a pretty penny by itself. As far as a milling saw goes that's pretty much the king of the game. People have probably milled more wood with an 090 than any other saw made. It's a real workhorse in the cut. The don't have the chain speed of the newer saws...

    Mill suggestions

I agree completely. To many variables, the gas station, how old the gas is, even the quality of the gas these days, for me to run 50:1. Probably be just fine most of the time but I prefer the little extra insurance of the additional oil in my mix.

    Mill suggestions

Most people agree that 50:1 is not ideal for these hard use saws. Most on the site here including BobL run 40:1 and a lot run even 32:1. You simply tune the saw richer to compensate for the additional oil in the fuel. As long as the saw is tuned correctly for the mix it is absolutely a benefit...

    Those look great. Nice work.

    Mill suggestions

It was probably getting warm just from working it. The 880 is a beast and will eat lots of wood without complaining. I try to keep the saw from bogging much. You will get the best finish if you try to keep the saw moving at an even and steady pace. Keep even pressure on it and after playing...

    Mill suggestions

The 880 will put out a lot of oil but I would still recommend an auxiliary oiler at the end of the bar. One can be easily built for $30 or less and that is nothing compared to the investment you have made so far. Why not take the extra precautions to extend the saw, bars, and chains life spans...

    Mill suggestions

You might be on the edge but I would highly recommend one. It will extend the life of your bar, chain, and power head. Milling is inherently hard on a saw and any thing to help reduce stress is always welcomed.

Looks nice. Get that log up off the ground 3-4 feet and at an angle. Your back and knees will thank you later on. Plus it will cut a little easier with the weight of the saw and mill pushing it down the log.

    Assemblig the Peterson JP

I have to admit that I'm a little jealous of your new setup. Looks sweet. Can't wait to see the videos and some of your future work.
