    Tree work credit card scam

I've been getting these for months. I'm glad I finally thought to google it and this thread popped up. My guess is they're getting leads from this board. I decided a couple weeks ago to tell the guy to call me if he wanted to discuss and we went round and round. I could tell it was a scam...

Pretty good sized euc take down in a backyard

Not as cool as Sherbrooke Tree Service's video's but about 5 cords of wood for me and the crew to split up when it gets slow. That big limb is about the biggest thing I've ever needed to rig down. I just wish the helmet cam had worked. I hope you enjoy.

    Best Length Chip Truck

You're truck weight estimate is a bit light...figure closer to 15k or more for a truck with a 16' chip box. About 11k for a ford 650 and a nice dump body with the hoist will be at least 4k. I see guys around here rocking rigs that must have a combined weight of 30k or more with the chipper...

    Mini-excavator auxilary flow

It's all good. Bigger excavators are great if you've got em. Anything bigger than 11,000lbs is pushing my trailer to the limit and probably wouldn't fit in many of the tight back yards we work in. We don't do logging, but we need to move big short chunks of stuff we rope down. A 47k...

    Best Length Chip Truck

I've looked at them...I love the concept but they have much lower hp ratings than the US makers. How is the performance weighed down and on steep narrow roads? My last truck was underpowered for what I threw at it and crawling up hills at 10mpg with a line of cars honking at me is not good...

    Mini-excavator auxilary flow

I could go to the dealer but...I want to walk in there knowing what I'm looking for. I'm looking at the Takeuchi TB250 11,000lb mini-ex. It's sized to work in backyards, I can haul it with my pickup and it has by far the highest auxiliary flow in it's size class. About 26 gpm compared to...

    Hedge

That one looks like it grew with a decent tree form and then fell or was pushed over and kept growing. The roots are pulled up on the one side and was home toa rattle snake until the orchard was put in and the snake moved on. My buddy is thinking of removing thewhole thing because of the...

Need help deciding. Chipper vs Skid Steer

I've been looking at one of these. I haven't bought it yet. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/220277139779?lpid=82&chn=ps If you're going to get a skid steer instead of a chipper you can crush the brush down and dump it into a high side dump. There are some jobs where we need a skid steer...

What do you charge for your firewood?

If you're paying those prices you don't have access to trees, no place to store the wood and you have little soft girly hands that are only good for typing and stock trading.

What size do you cut your firewood?

This thread is aimed at guys selling firewood. What lengths do you cut and sell? How small do you split it too? I try to sell it the size I like to burn it. 3.5"-4.5" to a face. I ask because those huge firewood processors I see on youtube look like they kick out a lot of pieces I...

    Hedge

I've only encountered it one time, on a ranch in Mendocino. I cut a big spar off of a tree in a 100 year old orchard. I really wish I had known what I was working with. We bucked up about a dozen bow blanks for firewood. Totally strait, no branches or knots for 8', about 22" diameter...

Mountain Mahogany - Heaviest Firewood?///Blaze King "distance run"

Oh Yeah...and people have melted their stoves with full loads of manzanita. Be careful with your mahogany. :-)

Mountain Mahogany - Heaviest Firewood?///Blaze King "distance run"

We have manzanita around here that is pretty close and that stuff is gold. $250 for a half cord easy, more if you're selling to people smoking meat. Personally, I would cut it small and mix it with big chunks of soft wood. Might be better used as bowls and cutting boards than firewood...

What do you do with your ashes?

lye isn't acidic. It's alkaline. It will eat through stuff like acid but it's on the other side of the pH scale.

    Rocket Stoves

You guys are discussing two different but related technologies. The first is the rocket stove. It's a J shaped burn chamber with passive secondary air for complete combustion. The second is the mass heater part. If you run the flue pipe through something with mass it will absorb the heat...

What do you charge for your firewood?

The price of wood is largely based on the price of labor and then for primo stuff its a supply and demand thing. Labor is more expensive where I'm at. Most of the small operators just cut up the monterey pine that gets dropped off in their yard for free and sell it for what they want to get...

    Bulk firewood cleaner

Slabs are spendy. I'm renting a 1/5 acre yard for $650/month and I'm haggling with the owner to pay for truck loads of gravel, much less pave it. Paved space with the right zoning is more than $ .10/sq/ft/month, that's $4,300/acre a month in Sonoma County, Ca. Damn vineyards and wineries...

    Barberchair

I'm not sure if I posted these pictures right. We were taking down 98 red gum eucs with heavy leans towards the road. We had to put some pretty serious pull on them to get them going the right way. It only took a couple tries to figure out we couldn't cut through from the back without having...
