stihl ms 661 or husqvarna 390xp for a new saw

Not many will have used both saws extensively , since the 661 is pretty new. I only have about an hour on mine, but have a fair amount of time on the 390. Both saws are stock, except for a minor muffler mod on the 390. To me, they are pretty close, but the 661 isn't broken in yet. The 661 seems...

    Saws that surprised you...

Surprisingly good saws: Husky 346XP OE - 45cc light and fast. Had it for years; got a 550XP but still use this one way more. Stihl MS650 - Picked one up on close out, popped on a 066 muffler, and let it rip. Folks who never used one moaned about them. It's a very underrated saw. Husky 555 -...

    Pro mechanics in Vancouver BC?

If you want it ported, there is a guy over on Vancouver Island who goes by the name Simonizer here who seems to have a good reputation.

Husky 555 or MS 261 VW Arctic

I'm a big 555 fan, but in this case a 261 will do the trick and be a tad lighter. If you already have a 50cc saw though, then maybe you can get the 555 just to have a 60cc saw :msp_biggrin: Both are top of the line pro quality saws.

Stihl ms 361 vs Husky 562

I have a 562 and 361, both with mm. I also have a 555, with a mm as well. I think the 555 feels about the same power-wise as the 361, and the 562 has more top end than either of the others. The 555 is the smallest and lightest of the bunch, and gets used the most.

Stihl MS 261 - What To Buy Next???

Congrats on buying a great pro saw! I have a 261 as well and it's an awesome little saw. I usually use a 16 or 20" on mine. How experienced are you with a chainsaw? What to get next? I'd vote for a full set of protective equipment - Chaps, good hearing and eye protection, and a helmet...

    MS 650 Ported

Get Yourself a Stock 066 Mufler I agree that the 650's have a sweet powerband. I had one, and regret selling it. I would pick up a stock Stihl 066 muffler, retune, and call it a day. That alone will wake up the 650 quite a bit. It did on mine.

is 2013 favorite gonna be Husky or Stihl ?

Husky, Stihl, or Even Dolmar Well, Husky was ahead previously IMO with the 550, 555, and 562. Stihl then got one right with the 461. I also liked the 261, but that was the first saw in some time that Stihl had put out that impressed me. Again, IMO, the 441 and 362 were not class leading at all...

    036 pro Craigslist find

A very nice 036 will go for $250-$350 here. You will hear about guys who get screaming deals, and it does happen, just not that often. I would look at the external condition first. Has it been abused? Lots of paint loss, cracks in the plastic, etc. Does it look like they dragged it behind...

    Best Splitting Axe - Opinions?

LMAO - That is funny. Cute and can handle an axe. It doesn't get much better than that! Back on Topic - this is an old thread. Probably like many of you guys, I have collected a bunch of axes, mauls, hatchets, etc. My 2 cents on a few..... Fiskars Maul- I use this one the most. It is...

    372xp

Most use skip on 28" and 32". I don't go to full comp usually until 24" and below.

    372xp

Standard setup here on 70cc saws. 372, 440, 460 usually sit on the shelf with a 32" bar and skip chain. Although I prefer a 28" on the 372 and 440, I have used the 32" and it works great. 1000's of loggers can't all be wrong!:msp_biggrin:

MS361 Problem - Oil/Fuel Leaking from Under the Muffler

Resolved! Ok, I put it back together, fired it up and tuned it. It was actually a bit lean. I only had time to run it for around 10 minutes, but it looks like the oil leak has disappeared. What I did: 1) Tighten case bolts (they were pretty tight already). 2) Remove, refinish, and...

$50 more for the wrap here. In fact, it's pretty hard to get them without a wrap. $250 more for the W is highway robbery.

MS361 Problem - Oil/Fuel Leaking from Under the Muffler

I ran out to take a look, and yes it has two rings intact. You are right though; it looks like it is missing a ring in the picture. Refinishing the muffler now....and if I get off of work in time will put it back together tomorrow night and fire it up. Btw, two of the screws near the...

MS361 Problem - Oil/Fuel Leaking from Under the Muffler

I used the Stihl Moto Mix in a can which is 92 non ethanol gas premixed at 50:1 with Stihl synthetic ultra. I use this in my trimmers every now and then.

MS361 Problem - Oil/Fuel Leaking from Under the Muffler

Ok, thanks for the tips. I tightened down the case halves, but they seemed pretty tight. I'll tune it after I put it back together. As to the mix that was used, I have no idea what the last guy used. I drained the saw, idled it dry, and then put in some Stihl premix just to remove that...
