    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

There was a fairly long period of time when my two sons and I would go through 2-3 cases of shot shells in one session. My philosophy back then was for them to be worn out before we ran out of ammo and clays... .22s and .38 Special handguns were treated the same. I cannot imagine going through...

When I order birdshot I let the USPS carrier know the day before the scheduled delivery that heavy packages are coming and that my hand truck is outside so he can use it. The companies selling shot have taken to using flat rate shipping boxes for 50 lbs of shot. The letter carriers are not...

Gutters too... There are two of them at my parents' house to handle the gutters.

Reminds me of the time I moved a safe... The safe was originally in a bank in the Catskills in the 19th century. I got it on the power tail gate and found it needed jack assist. Getting it off was a disaster too as when all the weight got on the tail gate the suspension went down and the safe...

I could use poplar... need to trim out my house and make new Shaker cabinets for the kitchen and bath... All to be painted. For that project and new floors I bought a power feeder for use on my cabinet saw, jointer, and shaper. The molding machine has it's own feeder. I've got no practical way...

Those and solar arrays popping up all over the place in the Hudson Valley and it's awful. I have many associates who are environmental advocates (they won't use chainsaws but they are fine with me doing the cutting for them) who do not accept the visual obstructions, the mining for scarce...

This tree service is out of the Lake Katrine, NY (or maybe Kingston or maybe Saugerties) based on their web site. They did a job down near the Pepacton Reservoir earlier this year. Any of you guys familiar with this stretch of road? The shot on the thumbnail looks like Rte 209 between Kingston...

A friend of mine owned the bar/restaurant where scenes from the movie Tootsie were filmed. He used to run a contest encouraging people to bring in live snapping turtles from which big pots of turtle soup was made. While technically legal, the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation asked...

My concerns about the snappers were calmed this afternoon when I spotted this frisky pair while surveying the trail for maintenance issues... A snapper only a snapper could love... 😍

That way they can sell you a Craftsman oil drain pump... It's a conspiracy I tell ya... 😉

With a break in the rain and some discretionary time Saturday we took a walk ahead of my grandson's birthday dinner... We saw this guy on the newly built out rail trail. That section of trail was single track for 40 years and now it's blacktopped. I saw a lot of wildlife there over the years...

The guy who often works with me cutting trees on the rail trail had the same thing happen to his beater truck. He patched it with fiberglass mesh and epoxy... a few months later it started leaking again. Upon researching the situation he discovered that the temperature range for the epoxy he...

Guess they can make Lincoln Logs out of it... The one's I got for Christmas in 1962 are redwood. My kids played with them (along with the 100s of additional ones I made from white pine) and my grandsons will be playing with them in the coming years. The red wood ones are nicer than the pine. 😉

Anybody need a MIG welder... One on Nextdoor... must be a deal. An old Harbor Freight ad suggests otherwise
