    Old Walnut

Long story short I have an opportunity to tear down an old barn (120+ years old) and I was going to salvage the lumber for another project. Upon inspection of the barn I noticed that the loft stringers are whole logs made flat on one side for the loft boards to sit and are walnut. Then after...

    460 got a work today

Lots of help I completely agree, it is amazing the amount of people willing to lend a hand around the area. Driving home last night the amount of cleanup that has been completed is really amazing. I would think by the end of the weekend most of the tree work will be completed with just piles...

    Splitter Question

From the pictures and the literature on the internet it appears the splitter has not changed much in the 13+ years I have owned mine. The only issues I have had with my splitter is I replaced the engine (before yesterday) about 8 years ago because the engine ate itself for some reason (take...

    Splitter Question

After talking with my brother, it sounds like he was splitting and a piece flew that way and hit it the block hard enough to break it. I am already planning on making a shield this weekend so it won't happen again, and it also gives my a reason and opportunity to make a few other modifications...

    Splitter Question

Yesterday my brother calls me to tell me that he is putting a new engine on our brave 22 ton log splitter. The reason for this is he somehow got a log to break the engine block (not really sure how that is possible because I haven't seen it yet). Anyway my question is my brother purchased a...

    Converted Log Splitter

Same idea I currently have a brave 22 ton h/v splitter and have often thought about what you are doing. I first got the idea when I saw the splitters made by Powersplit. http://www.powersplit.com/index.html My idea was a little different, I though I might be able to use everything pretty...

Post a helpful hint to help teach others

Amount of Work Cutting the tree down is the easy part, cleaning it up and making firewood takes a lot more work and time. Stacking firewood is an excellent cure for a hangover, running the chainsaw is not. When cutting down trees in a fence row cut one down and clean it up, cutting the entire...

    building a house

I am thinking the exact same thing Not only would it cost about 10 to 20% more, I was planning on doing a lot of the work myself which would even push the percentage higher. I wouldn't mind paying more if it was going a be a lot better, but in my experience in this area a 2x6 wall with...

    building a house

Interested in the SIP's My wife and I are looking a build a house in a couple of years and the SIP have peaked our interest. After doing a little searching and asking a couple of different contractors in my area it seems no one in my area has used or heard of anyone using them. So my basic...

    2009 Chainsaw Health Challenge!

I'll join I can always use a little more motivation. In February I turned 29 and was the heaviest I have ever been 250lbs, I am 6'4" and was able still to do most everything I wanted, then I joined a Y basketball team and was rudely awaken to the fact that I was slow and could no longer...

    Fiskars Super splitting axe review

Finally got to try mine out This past weekend. I purchased one from Menards a couple weeks ago, and I really like it. I was splitting hackberry really easy and it was a lot nicer to swing than the 8ld or the 16ld. Like many have said before me I thought it would be to short but after a...

START OF "THUMPER" BALER SPLITTER/ Flying cutting wheels

I like the idea I have seen the video before and it made think what a cool but dangerous idea. I have often thought about building one but with a couple of mods. 1. I would make it so after the wood is split it would be pushed out the end of the bailer by the next split. 2. Instead...
