    Milling Dry timber

I've got 460 and 046 that sees most use. Both muff modded to reduce held in heat. And breath better for more power. The 661 is ported and is a bear for hard wood milling over the 42" bar capacity. When sharpening chain bring angle towards 0-5°. The middle of that log is wet still. End grains are...

Are FOP really progressive depth raker generators?

Each cutter is made and falls into container which feeds robot that puts pieces together into a long loop, or a smaller loop depending. Not much quality control available for the competitive market. That's how tuning our loops pays off so well.

Pushing the limits of Lo Pro

Physics says an object in motion stays in motion (on same path) by leaving safety guard off the nose sprocket, chips spewed about 12 foot using ported 661on a maple ,cutters are not attached to chips or dust as ¥using top of bar ms460 42" b&c 34" ash log. Stopped mid slice to show the type angle...

Pushing the limits of Lo Pro

Except the "bottom " is the pull, top cutter edge travel is away from PH. Hence the hand pressure on upright handle is to hold far end of mill away from log edge

I've never noticed any difference. The resistance at that sprocket should be no different and tha bar gets flipped from time to time.

    Alaskan mill

My 661 has a breathing assist in porting. Once it broke in she will carry that 72 square chisel combo. May be even faster than an 880 with same b& c since epa chokes down air flo on self powered air pumps of the last couple decades. A guy with a stock 661 asked what saw I had (046 muf mods...

    Alaskan mill

In avatar is 60" cannon bar, 3/8" .063 skip square chisel. Powered by ms-460 muf mods and max flo air filter. Ran much nicer while milling maple on a ported 661lol

Pushing the limits of Lo Pro

I'm walking to the right rather than left, holding the upright handle away.

Pushing the limits of Lo Pro

My habit has been to mill with the "top" of the bar. Throws chips away, brings none into drive sprocket area. And, that's the part that has fresh oil feed.

What are you making with your milled wood?

Not my work! Commercial beauty that is 16 consecutive pieces from same slab very thin curf. Great mirrored sequence. $315,000 condo emptying via auction

    Forrester bar and chain

I've got a 72" that carries square chisel skip well. It is stiff enough for the job IMO

You know you have CAD when......

    Yup!

You know you have CAD when......

This economy chainsaw showed up at auction. Must be Xtra $ for bar cushion and chain brake. Not to lift more'n 5# per hand so paid 82 yo diabetic a donut to place saw and 2 cased bowling ball in back. No idea about chain oiler system, haven't looked about24" bar

    Alaskan mill

Rails are available up to 72". They will replace/lengthen that part so the clamps, uprights etc. is just swapped. That is what is in use on the 60" & 72" bars to ride the ladder-guide that I use. G'day gents

    Alaskan mill

Another aspect I forgot is that about 2 inches can be gained on a cut by drilling 1/4" hole, center of sprocket. D&T center of 3/4 or 1 inch round aluminum bar for the upright. 1/4" bolt with lock washer holds it all together. 1" or 3/4" bolt is all it takes. I use round as that takes a...

    Alaskan mill

I've gotten 50" and 60" cannon bars for my ported 661. They are stiff, high quality and pricey. I did find a forester 72" bar , just in case, which was less than either of the cannon bars. Searched a lotta days for "72" bar for the specific mount" when it showed up it was mine. Good luck in your...

    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

In Missouri the only officer who can legally write that ticket is the one who did the observance. November 11 several years ago. Radar/radio on overpass, circle of traffic officers who wrote the allegations, plead not guilty twice (2nd with writer in court). Court " did you observe this offense...

    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

I've had better luck cutting/sharpening square chisel. In part since my longer bars: 42"-72" cause me to buy hundred foot reels to make em up

    Scrounging Firewood (and other stuff)

Square chisel ges better as the cutter angle gets closer to 0-10° . The wider the cutters the more loss to chips and the more hp needed. I've got some raisman 3/8 lp .050 that is much faster on a 30" bar than the 3/8 .063 square chisel because it's cutting less end grain. I think the lower angle...

A Mini Mill by Timber Tuff

I've used the Alaskan to have the thickness from center even end to end. Then whichever 90° guide can set width without rolling cant. Boards 'r posts are lifted off. But I minimize efforts as much as possible 😂 I've also drilled thru bar for the center on casting, between lock hexes. Tap it for...
