    Air drying slabs

This. For run of the mill slabs without a specifically identifiable purpose when slabbed, I do exactly that - stacked in cut order, stickered, bound, and covered with corrugated tin or plastic and it sits outside Done. At some point, the slabs transition into a shed, then the shop.

    Equip questions

I tend to use Amana bits, but occasionally buy others. I started with Amana only because it was easy to load the tool profile for CAD-CAM and then organize my tool library using their catalog numbers. Probably not super good reasons. I think there are less expensive tooling options that may be...

my drying kiln for firewood and lumber

Very clever. I've seen the pallets-on-rails on kilns elsewhere for side-loading instead of the big front-load doors, but not drawbridge. Why the drawbridge instead of hinge-mount conventional doors and an off-loading platform on the door apron of some kind?

    Dirty Hand tools 4 way

To be clear - I thought the question was about the 4-way not the DHT machine itself. The machine’s worked well and no issues on that; it’s the DHT 4-way attachment that didn’t work for me.

    Dirty Hand tools 4 way

I busted one and ditched the second. The strippers aren’t good and I could go faster w double passes without it. Almost all Doug-fir.

Which small saw, and advice on 2-3 saw plan

Ditto except my 036 gathers dust bc of the MS241. Planning to add a 440 to make my 3-saw combo 192-241-440. I’ll tell my wife I’ll sell the 036. But I never will. (Ask me how I ended up w two pickup trucks.) I’m in softwood land w not much more than 24” diameter, but the 036 bogs down sometimes...

    Guys With Band Saw Mills

I know what a board foot is. The question is what’s a board for this purpose? The time it takes to cut the same volume depends on unit size. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk

Should I buy a professional saw?

Yup. I've got several dead or dying consumer and prosumer level saws that just ran out of steam. Those have been replaced with new or good-as-new used saws (one of which is twice old as the dead ones.) The pro saws run better for longer. I'm not a professional wood cutter, I just cut timber for...

    Need Help Deciding. 201 CEM? 241CM? 543 XP? 193CE? 439?

+1 on the 241. I bought mine for woodpile work to replace an annoying MS-211 and to avoid repurposing an 036. I've been using the 241 for falling and bucking as well and it's become the saw closest to the shop door real quick. For my use I saved $ and weight over a 261 without degrading utility...

    Are You Insured?

"General Liability" (aka "GL") business insurance is the usual term. The agent will offer a bunch of add-ons (fire, business interruption...), but sounds like you're thinking about a base GL policy. You'll fill out an application which discloses the specifics of what you're doing and what you...
