    "You Suck" Thread 2021"--Pics required!

Free pile find. Either an 056 or 045. It runs, but needs some parts.

Fx1000 is considered a detail gun and in general, detail guns run smaller in tip size than a full size gun. A 1.4 detail gun is basically a primer gun and equivalent to probably a 1.6 to 1.8 in a full size gun. My advice: mix up a small batch of you epoxy and do some sorayouts to see how it...

    Question for the porting gurus.

Are you sure you went through the plating? Hard to tell from the pics, but it looks to me like you just haven't removed all of the aluminum transfer.

If you do etch primer you'll have to sand it before topcoating, and most etch primers are not reccommended to be directly topcoated. You want a primer surfacer in between the etch and your top coat to prevent the acids in the etch primer from staining your top coat. But every product is...

And remember you can get epoxy in rattle cans too. Your jobber store can order it for you if they don't keep it in stock. Ask for spraymax part number 3680032.

    Slightly off-topic - 2-cycle blower performance

I think you are right. I own a pb250 and it does the same thing if you get the nozzle too close to something. The revs jump way up. Other than that, it starts quick and easy. Matter of fact my father in law gave it to me after sitting unused with a tank full of rotten ethanol has that was over 5...

Who uses thread locker and on what parts?

Who uses thread locker and on what parts? Which thread locker do you use? I haven't used it on previous builds, but on my most recent one I noticed the 036 service manual calls for thread locker on some of the fasteners.

Skip the high build primer. You're not making a show car right?

Either should be compatible. But read your sheet on the 5:1 primer very closely because if you use that primer you will most likely need to sand it before you top coat which could possibly be extra unnecessary work. If it was me, I would use an epoxy primer such as PPG DPLF over the entire...

If you already have self etch you should be fine. You need one or the other, not both.

Choose your fluid nozzle based on what the product you're using says in the tech sheets. 125 for an FX1000 is a good price. I will check my iwata catalog at work Monday as their website kind of sucks. In general, thicker product, bigger tip. Although keep in mind nozzle size on a detail gun will...

The biggest factor is a quality paint job however is your prep. Everything must be clean enough to eat off of. Any parts receiving paint must be sanded. Bare metal areas need epoxy primer or self etching primer. When you buy your paint and primer, ask the counter person for copies of the tech...

In that case, then yes, buy a good paint gun. I saw that number thrown around in the thread earlier but I assumed you all were joking. OP: check out the iwata LPH50. Iwata products in general use less air than sata or devilbiss and make less overspray. I will never own a sata product. They are a...

And all these guys telling you that you need a devilbiss or sata to paint a freaking chainsaw? In my opinion, totally unnesseccary. A skilled painter can take a cheap paint gun and make it look good. A crappy painter can take a 1000 dollar sata and screw up th3 simplest of jobs.

Don't discount iwata. They are the best in my opinion. But honestly if all you're doing is painting chainsaws, I would buy a harbor freight detail gun or if you want something a little bit better, a Sharpe finex FX1000. I run an auto body supply store, so ask away if you have any more questions...

    The Beg for Manuals Thread

Anyone have a copy of stihl' s "troubleshooting, standard repairs" manual? I have seen reference to it in a few of the model specific service manuals.

    Stohl torge specs

Anyone have the official torque specs from stihl for the various fasteners they use? Currently rebuilding an 036, in the past I have just tightened them to German specs (goottentight). This time I wouldn't mind doing it right.

Is this a real stihl cylinder?

    Thanks for the information everyone!

Is this a real stihl cylinder?

See attached pics. This came off an 036 I picked up as a non runner for 50 bucks. The saw is really clean but the piston was toast. I was able to clean up the cylinder pretty well. Check out the pics. I thought the cylinder was aftermarket due to the poor casting quality until I saw the stihl...
