For the arborists - BIfenthrin spray questions

Thanks guys. It puts my mind at ease. I didn't want to have established trees having issues with something I'm not (yet) completely familiar with. I'll have to be more mindful of where I keep the sprays in the future.

For the arborists - BIfenthrin spray questions

Have a quick question for those more familiar with pest spray and chemicals. I've been removing woodpiles from the bases of trees on our property. The usual borers and large ant colonies were of course there, so I moved usable firewood well away from other trees or buildings. In doing so, my...

ethanol caused chrome cylinder in stihl saw to disappear?

What about gasoline stabilizers like Sta Bil? I have a few seasonal toys that have pump premium, Techron and marine Sta Bil as a winterizing cocktail.

ethanol caused chrome cylinder in stihl saw to disappear?

E10 eats just about anything if it's left sitting in a tank or vehicle as well. Fuel pumps, seals, hoses, you name it. I sure wish they'd get rid of E10. Not much good to it for seasonal items & vehicles.

Development / production spans Stihl & Husqvarna

I think what I meant was, when does a current model get a successor? What brought about the move from the Husqvarna 346 to the 550? EPA? Power availability? Was it a regular cycle of releasing a new saw every __ years? A Ford Fusion is updated every __ years, what's the lifespan of current...

Development / production spans Stihl & Husqvarna

You know when someone says 'they don't make 'em like that anymore'? Or when a new model comes out, people justify the current model? Well, I was wondering what a general production run is (years) for some Stihl or Husqvarna saws. Some current models are 4-5 years on the market, how long does...

Paint on case - touchups / durability / heat - need advice

The saw I got was basically new, just a ding here and there, which I guess could be touched up with a dab of sturdy urethane. I suppose it’ll get a few extra marks during use anyway. But that brings me to another question – no new saw I’ve ever seen has had 100% perfect cases. There’s always...

Paint on case - touchups / durability / heat - need advice

I agree. Though I’m less familiar with magnesium cases. I think I’m just looking to prevent any dreaded rot or oxidation – but is that a concern for dings & chips on the outside of a saw? Reason I ask, I’m familiar with magnesium wheels, and the occasional oxidation that comes with them when...

Paint on case - touchups / durability / heat - need advice

Last weekend, I finally picked up a decent Husky saw. It has a few areas with bare metal on the case (magnesium), which I'd like to dab a little (???) for preventative measure. I know saws are more or less 'tools' so it's more to prevent more paint lifting and keep the magnesium protected...

    Red Pine, deep woodpecker holes

I havent seen the insects directly though there are several varieties of bugs that like evergreens. The holes pecked are rectangular, can fit two fingers to the third knuckle. If it is the Sawyer bug, is there any way to hold them at bay?

    Red Pine, deep woodpecker holes

I know they're looking for something. We have a stand of mixed woods, some of the (tall) red pine have deep-ish woodpecker holes. They're 12-20 foot off ground, though I'm unsure which insect might be the culprit. The tree itself looks only partially weakened, but I'm guessing it's only a...

Elm Tree with white rot or fungus?

Can't say for certain without seeing what's between the wood and bark. It sounds like Dutch Elm Disease, which took down large numbers of Elms in the SE Michigan area. Might want to Google Dutch Elm to confirm if that's something similar to what you see.

Intro and a completely off the wall question

I think that was why I scratched my head once I noticed the blemishes. My dad was a machinist too, detail oriented guy. I always thought Husqvarna was a high quality manufacturer but the 545s I saw looked like they were shipped loose in a box. Had some parts arrive from a well known German...

Intro and a completely off the wall question

To be fair, it is nit picky stuff. Won't affect performance one tiny bit. It was just visually apparent is all. Either way, I'm looking forward to an honest second saw.

Intro and a completely off the wall question

Up in SE Michigan. Fortunately, three are within driving distance for me, and I haven't needed to take in any of my other Husky gear. Though getting accessories is a matter of choosing which one to drive to if you're in a pinch (chains at one, oil & wedges at another). The nearest one seems...

Intro and a completely off the wall question

Hi- Been lurking a while, and thought I'd formally join, see what I can learn from the more experienced in the room. 30+ years ago, I did landscaping, mostly heavy fill, agriculture, no forestry or clearing. I've been finding that wrestling with our house here, an afternoon of moving...
