    ailing dogwood

Looks like "fire blight", never dealt with it on a dogwood, all of our dogwoods here in N.E. FL are mostly dead or headed in that direction due to Anthracanose. Typical treatment requires removal of blighted branches and spray of strepomysin(sp?). Research "fire blight" with your tree type. I...

    Recycling Katrina and Rita

I just got back from Miss late last week after 2 good weeks of storm work (work here was backing up too much). I thought we had pines here in N FL, but that is the "pine belt" and they have them thick!!! GP has a large stud mill mill there and there were many other lumber yards. There is soo...

    Galeton Catalog, ugly gloves

I got that catalog recently and ordered 2 dozen of the wonder gloves and some safty glasses. Got it quick and cheap!!! I've been using "wonder gloves" for the last 2 years buying directly from them, but Galeton has them beat on price for what seems (after already going through 4 pairs) like...

    More power from your ms200t

That saw, outta the box has plenty of power. Why increase the noise for a little gain in speed/power? I worked the muffler of a MS290 and that saw runs and cuts like a champ, very strong saw!!! But I sold it to a buddy of mine cause it was way too loud to work with, sounded like a dirt bike...

    Fireblight in bradford pear

I spoke with a local company that has a good rep for PHC and good people. She said that around here fireblight in pears is spreading everywhere, local extension agent thinks it is due to the high bee population, and they are picking it up from loquat trees and spreading to the flowering pears...

    Damage to sweet gum

I bet it won't die. No way. I'd offer a free fert, tell them that all is well and see ya! I don't even think the fert is called for but it will make them think that you are a great guy. If the bark is still there (too late now) I'd tack it back on with a very small nail or in this case...

    Fireblight in bradford pear

Thanks for the feedback. The pear has no central leader, very co-dom. The blighted twigs are spread pretty evenly around the tree, and almost every leaf has spots. Will all the spotted leaves evenetually die and turn black? The tree is in one of the richiest neighborhoods and appearance is...

    Fireblight in bradford pear

Any suggestions for dealing with fireblight in a brad pear? The plan is to: remove all dead tips and spray the entire tree with a coper mix. I know that this is not the ideal time for the spray but I hope on reducing the spread somewhat. I've never seen this in a pear, does anyone have any...

    drill adapter for GRCS

with this pulley and this drill.... No go. Charley Portif (sp?). who sold me the adapter also said you are much better with the elec drill, not gas. Greg

    drill adapter for GRCS

don't buy a gas drill A gas drill will not pull a climber up a tree. I've tried. I have the best gas drill made by Stihl and it won't do it. I have used a heavy duty corded drill (dewalt) and it works like a charm. These are the big fat drills that look like but are not hammer drills. Greg

    self loader or grapple truck

I have a dumping loader with a peterson grappel, but would probably get a prentice on my next truck. The clam grappel on my truck is 4ft long, and it will take a 6ft tall pile about 5ft wide and pick it up in one grab. It is great with brush, and pretty good at not scalping the grass as long an...

    Am I nutz?

This is an example of just how big an inovation the BS really is. I think most BS users wouldn't think of climbing a tree to set a line, that just isn't how you set a line with a BS in the tool box, you shoot the line. Go back 5-7 years, and you wouldn't consider anything but climbing to set...

    Firewood

Who does not love to burn one? We just had some brutal weather last weekend, I think Sunday got down to 29. Today however a beautiful 68. Our weather is very fickle, up and down all winter. I don't know how you guys make it in the northern states with the sustained cold temps. --I know...

    Firewood

I have tried to make money off of fire wood this year. We split about 6-7 cords and have sold about $300.00 and have given the majority away. I have too much family around and neighbors that all like to burn fires. I no longer look at it as a money making proposition but as a PR tool. Those...

Felling bar for in the tree?

I have a felling bar with a cant hook. I rarely use he bar for felling but do use the cant to help move logs around. I would much rather carry a wedge and a small hammer, I'm sure it would produce more movement than the bar. The wedge will at least keep the kerf open, where as the bar will...

    Gate Arch

I've been drooling over TM's arch pics for a year or so. This looks like the arch I've been waiting for. How big of a log can it move (diameter and length) fully suspended? I think I've seen all the pics in the thread but no logs just brush being moved. You also said it can move a bunch of...

    Stump Grinding Prices???

I sub out 90% of my stumps. I have a great stump guy, his minimum is $50 for less than a 20" stump. Like Murph said lots of factors in pricing but I've had plenty of $350.00 stumps (live oak 40" with lots of root flare). I recently sold a $1300 stump job --stumps only, no tree work. I had my...
