Husky 141/136 coil - does a poulan one fit?

Hi all, I'm trying to find a second-hand coil for one of these. I can buy a new one, but as it's a saw I'm selling, that takes away any profit I may make from it. Does any one know if the small Poulan coils fit? There are plenty of those over here in New Zealand just being thrown away, and...

I put on my steel underwear before I posted this thread...

They're pretty popular over my way... I don't have time to file for hours on the saws I fix and sell (which never have sharp chains), neither do I believe that hand filing can ever achieve the precision of machine sharpening. I don't like taking chains to shops, because most of the dealers...

Need help to ID this barn find McCulloch

Looks like an old 3-25. Have a look at this webpage: http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/ed1d619968136da688256af40002b8f7/8dcb11e095cbdf0088256b00005a82c1?OpenDocument It could also be a 4-30. See this link...

    Aftermarket rings - opinions, anyone?

I've often used AIP or EPISAN rings and sometimes pistons in saws. Are they as good as the original rings? Reason I'm asking is my mate's 181/288 still hasn't got the power. He found a matching 288 barrel and piston in excellent condition, and rebuilt the bottom end, but he used an AIP...

Stick with 2101XP or buy 385 instead?

Cheers for that. I'm not sure why the 7900 I had wasn't faster than the 288, but if yours are faster than your 288 then a 7900 in good health and state of tune must truly be something. Unless of course your 288 isn't in good health. My mate's one is a complete disapointment. Perhaps the AIP...

    Skilsaw model 1629

Some of them sold in pure white, too. Mine I bought for $30 at a recycling plant where it was sitting with other junked outdoor equipment. A change of fuel, and it fired up. I ran it for a while but got rid of it eventually. Nice wee saw, although nowhere near as common as the larger...

Stick with 2101XP or buy 385 instead?

Hey cheers for that. The 2101 stays. Do you need to shave the top of the piston on a 385 when you pull the base gasket?

Stick with 2101XP or buy 385 instead?

I did wonder. My 288 is amazing. My mate's one is nowhere near as powerful. We can't seem to find any difference between them, but his just isn't the same. Perhaps someone has modified mine at some stage, but it's not common in NZ. I removed the spark arrestor but that shouldn't make a huge...

    Husky 2101XP rebuild complete

+1 - mine normally runs a 20" bar and looks great. I put the big bar on when and if I need it, which is never.

Stick with 2101XP or buy 385 instead?

Hi all, I love my 2101 - it's only done light work on a farm cutting down a few oaks from time to time before it came to me. It has amazing compression and runs very well. But I invariably pick up the 288 for most work simply because it's about 2kg lighter and has a chain brake, which I...

    Got a Poulan 5400 - alloy or chrome-plated barrel?

Well, after a great start, it turns out the coil is stuffed. The saw was dying in the cut, after a great start. This old saw really eats wood when running right. I'm very impressed. After blocking off the governor and removing the atomizer gauze in the main jet, it's still giving trouble...

181/288 hybrid not producing expected power.

Hi all, A mate of mine has persevered with old Husky 380 and 480 saws for so long it's not funny. I gave him a go of my 288 and he loved it so much I kept a lookout for another one. Anyway, a guy swapped me a 181 for my remaining 380 parts and it was so tidy that I decided to get my mate...

    Got a Poulan 5400 - alloy or chrome-plated barrel?

No, I didn't know about the governor - handy to know! My 2101XP had a governor on the carb but the boys on the forum said to block the thing off as they get old and don't work properly. Now it runs like a dream, and compression went right up once it got the right mixture. The governor was...

    Got a Poulan 5400 - alloy or chrome-plated barrel?

Yeah well, everyone in the city is still alive and we had 2 vases and a figurine broken, so what's there to whinge about? It was very strong though, and went on for a minute. A lot of chimneys have fallen around the city. Kaiapoi wasn't so lucky - one lady's garden dropped 3 metres. Kaiapoi...

    Got a Poulan 5400 - alloy or chrome-plated barrel?

Thanks for the video! Are you running 3/8 or .404 chain? I'm taking my beast out (hopefully tomorrow) to cut some wood. I like reed-valve chainsaws, and I'm getting quite attached to this one. It's well-designed, easy to work on, and mechanically I'm unlikely to see another one like it over...

    Got a Poulan 5400 - alloy or chrome-plated barrel?

Thanks for the info. Restores my faith in the brand! I had a 3400 a while back but the bore was absolutely stuffed. Not scored, but worn out. Hmmm, you've made it harder for me to sell the 5200...

    Got a Poulan 5400 - alloy or chrome-plated barrel?

Well, you probably know more about it than me, but to my mind it seems a very dumb idea to have a very soft bore and a hard piston and ring. Briggs and Stratton had the same idea with their alloy bores in the home owner lawn mowers. 4-stroke, lot's of oil slopping up the bore and they still...

    Tuning a Dolmar 7900

Hey cheers for that. Looks like a good way to do it.

    Got a Poulan 5400 - alloy or chrome-plated barrel?

AFAIK, the Micro 25 used the alloy barrel/chrome-plated piston combo, as did the 3400, 3700, 4000 series. They are all the same vintage as the 5200, hence my question. Whoever thought that one up should have been shot. What were they thinking?
