Best method to hide tree stumps?

Isn't Yale on the Fraser River? In any case, Federal Fisheries Act would probably apply (private land or not) if you were found to have altered or have caused damage to a riparian area associated with fish habitat. Given that the Fraser River supports one of the largest Sockeye salmon runs in...

    Solar kiln

Shouldn't have to worry about UV with that Suntuf material .... it is 100% UV blocker. I left a piece on my lawn last summer and killed it pronto. VA Sawyer - How does a solar kiln work if you don't leave it in the sun?

    Done something stupid today.

You're not the only one lately .... http://www.arboristsite.com/chainsaw/193408.htm Saw this on the Chainsaw site so you're not the only one. Never have met Brad and know he is not a faller by trade but he his certainly not what I would consider to be a newbie when it comes to chainsaws...

Trying to find information on basic timber framing

Take a look at this forum site .... http://www.##################/board/index.php and under Timber Framing and Log Construction. Lots AS members over there as well and lots of other helpful like minded individuals. Hmmmm....AS doesn't like the Forestry Forum? Not like AS has a timber...

    Bark Beetle Planning

and unfortunatley the shelf life of dead standing pine is pretty short - maybe 5 years max before it falls over. Up here lately the solution has been pellet mills (for pellet stoves) or bioenergy (tub grinder into hog fuel) to convert the really dead stuff that is no longer millable. Log...

    The Mystery of the Clearcut

When I worked on the coast, LRR pockets were easier to identify and we tended to spot treat with a mixed plant rather than try to stump. Fallers were to "X" stumps with stain and the planters would not put any DF around for a certain radius. Armillaria on the other hand is everywhere so we...

    The Mystery of the Clearcut

Stumping for root rot like madhatte said .....Laminated root rot n the coastal stands and we do it for Armillaria root rot in the interior. We stump only where it would be preferred to put doug-fir back as part of the planting stock - where doug-fir was a major component of the original stand...

How much is 10 acres of spruce worth in quesnel bc?

Small sawlog sort...I'm guessing about $35 -45/m3. Depends on tall they are, how long a bottom log they can get out of it and overall quality. Remember that is a gross price before your costs - which include felling, skidding, processing and trucking. Most mills will go to a 4" top, but...

    Sewing/Patching raingear

I've had luck with tire patches too but then I had access to the guys in the camp truck shop. They were good for patching rubber caulks to get you through the winter. You are right about the shoe goo and the really slick rubber - it would peel off and not bond. I think the seam grip would...

    Sewing/Patching raingear

Yes ... fingers move faster than my brain can. Shoe goo it is! I have Helly Hanson stuff that I wore on the coast in on the rigging with that 3 step combination that lasted many seasons. Seam Grip is better than shoe goo if I remember correctly and works best on the rubber rain gear.

    cable logging

The Koller looks like the 070 Madil. There are a couple around for sale in the Okanagan. Expensive to resurrect and limited opportunity to use. Your yarding cost ($/m3) would be very high and limiting….you need production to make money on that machine. The Skylead is hooky like Coastal...

    Steep slope skidding

CAT 517 is a steep slope beast but anything tracked (esp. a CAT) is expensive and as mentioned not productive over long distance for skidding. If you've got steep ground (40-55% slope) you'd be better off hoe chucking with an excavator or larger tracked loader (Madill 1800) ... all depends on...

    cable logging

1200' (350m) is getting alittle long for a grapple yarder...you will loose deflection and get slower production. Probably have to rig tail trees for lift out that far with a grapple. Shorter yarding in the 150-200m range is good esp. if you can use mobile back spar. 250m is the longest we lay...
