Filter was rolling around in tank when I received mine also, paid $114 for mine. I like the way it cuts and I'm waiting for the 90 day warranty to end to consider porting and a muffler mod.

The Pecan would be a much better choice if your interested in the nuts. I'm not aware of any market for Hickory nuts. I picked them when I was a kid with my
Grandparents who lived through the depression. Pecan trees like a creek or river bottom where the tap root has plenty of water..

Air Filtration
I own a Dolmar 5100 and cut 90% dead oak and elm. I wouldn't buy another 5100 because of the amount of dust getting past the filter. I clean the filter after every use. JMHO

In years past I think people heard of high prices paid for veneer Walnut logs. This leads people to believe all large Walnut trees are worth a lot of money. IMHO

Well, after reading this I've decided it would be a good thing to have a couple of spares on hand. Where is a good place to buy fire brick. Is this something Home Depot and Lowes has in Stock?

No tips, but I think the locust that has laid on the ground for a couple of years is much different than when it's green. My chains dull fast on this also.

Running a little rich
I'm considering setting my card a little richer, could someone tell me the negatives of running the saw on the rich side??
Dealer is about 50 miles away
Thanks any and all

Standing dead is pretty much the only thing I cut with my 5100, cut some Hickory with the gritty bark. I sure would like a fix for this as I would like the saw to last a lot of years. Clean the filter everytime before I use the saw and it always has the fine dark brown dust on the inside. Tried...
I made 6-8 cuts with a chainsaw around the trunk and applied Tourdon last August. If they are alive this august I will repeat. I plan on lettting the thorns rot and the bark fall off. Kind of a long term process but I can wait.
Paid $419 + tax for mine from a dealer the last Friday in Dec., in Jan. there were one new 5100 on Ebay that went for $339 + $16 shipping if IIRC. And 2 more from the same seller that went for just a little more.
Some of the dealers here will sell your a Demo saw that has very very low hours...
It's not how big your saw is that counts, it's your expertise

I can't see someone hanging out here and posting that would not want a chainsaw catalog, if your not interested
in chainsaws, why are you here??
