    MS 084 AV

Never owned a 084. IPL shows TWO hoses with a connector. The one that goes into the tank is a molded one that would not be a good one to replace with tubing, use OEM. Your pictures show the upper one which connects to the carb. That seems to be generic straight walled hose. Good call on...

    MS 084 AV

No reason to switch the tank vent system. The line with the grub screws were simple and effective, and cheap to repair. You can use generic fuel line for the vent if it's the correct size. As mentioned don't screw the screws in, push them. You have a fuel delivery problem. Make sure the...

    Hit metal today-chain still usable?

I just take the bad teeth down until they are sharp. Give the good teeth an extra file stoke or three with each sharpening and the cutters will even out after a while. I see no need to butcher all the good cutters to match the length of a couple bad ones and shorten chain life

036 carb/ intake boot air leak

Acrylic yarn works great. Soft and won't cut into the boot and flattens out when you pull in through the tank housing. My girlfriend knits so I have a free supply.... Filed down tooth brush handles work good for helping to pry the boot through. Also handy for working rings into a...

Opinions on this cylinder/piston please? 630 super

Piston is WAY worn out and it ate something hard on the intake port, or the worn skirt got the port edge. Look for a good used OEM cylinder and get a new piston. This is assuming crank is OK.

    Piston look OK?

And that's why I like it cleaned up before taking it apart, if cases are staying together. Also have to be clean putting things together, p-towel in the case until you slip the jug back on........don't set the parts down on the table next to your bench grinder.......

Stihl 034 AV oil pump/hose install

While you are in there, do the clutch bearing upgrade. I had one bearing go, but it didn't hurt the crank.

Sharpening Granberg ripping chain--best method for uniform cutters?

I use Stihl 63PMX chain and hand file it. The cutters that are longer get an extra stroke or two, the short ones just enough for an edge. Those chains cut fine until the cutters start to break off.

Keeping an Ash Round from Cracking?

I don't think it's going to happen. I've heard of soaking in ethylene glycol....... Let it dry and fill the cracks with fine sawdust/glue.
