What are you building with your milled wood? merged

I'm doing a lot of restoration work on my 1962 Willys pickup truck (original Tornado engine and drive train). When converting to a flatbed I decided to use rough, full dimension sycamore for the bed to give it the look of a sawmill owned truck. Not quite finished with the headache rack area...

    Faux Circular Sawing?

I have not tried it yet but have thought I might get the desired effect by using a grinding wheel on an angle grinder style buffer. Buffer because they turn more slowly than an angle grinder.

Wood Preserving Q - Beautiful Figure in Center of Trunk

Mine crack but,,, I stopped at a shop on the Oregon coast where they make slab tables and other heavy wood items. The owner there told me that he cuts logs at a diagonal to get an elliptical piece because they are less likely crack than a plain cross cut round.

    Faux Circular Sawing?

Has anyone experimented with creating a circular saw texture on slabs? Live edge slabs, farm tables, and vintage wood trim are very popular now and this circular mill marks are the hardest to come by. So, if we could easily create a similar texture on our milled lumber, it would be an...

    Bigger is Better?

When working for a mining company in Nevada, I carved a bear from a tree stump in a remote area. Six months later I returned and it was already gone. Bigfoot might last a little longer. LOL

    Ready for winter :)

This past spring and summer I moved a lot of slabbed product into a hardwood retailer for consignment sales. After coasting along for the summer, I finally got the bug to do some sawmilling. Now my solar kiln and air-dry racks are nearly full :) Back stack in my solar kiln. All elm. Air...

    Elm

I started milling elm slabs for a hardwood dealer this summer. After a lifetime of thinking elm was 'junk wood', I have been surprised at the rich color and how hard this elm is. It's actually pretty nice for live edge slabs. 100" long slabs against my solar kiln. A second batch. Fresh...

    Vintage Chainsaw Collectors Lounge

Bought this David Bradley today. It seems to have plenty of compression but the previous owner (who inherited it) couldn't get it started. I'll tinker with it tomorrow... Can anyone ID this? The only number I've found is cast in the bottom and not yet readable. No tags are attached.

    Road Trip Sales

When setting up "road side" I recommend you be focused on putting a business card in everyone's hand. I find business cards to be very effective at bring sales later. It seems a lot of people make up their mind after I have gone home :) And do not neglect to try Walmart and Home Depot parking...

    Road Trip Sales

Have you ever thought about it then decided to Not take your trailer load of carvings along on a road trip? If so, that was a bad idea... I recently returned from a 4,200+ mile road trip and we didn't have to use any of the money we set aside for the trip! Carvings sold at gas stations, rest...
