    No start 044

Coworker brought me his 044 that will not start after some work he did. He removed the clutch to try to fix the oil pump. He used the old rope down the spark plug hole as a piston stop trick but unfortunately the rope went out the exhaust port and when removing the clutch the piston wedged so...

    Dolmar 5100S issue

Saw has been great but noticed some issues the last couple uses while doing some limbing/small diameter bucking. Cold start is fine and saw runs great until it's fully warmed up. Once hot the idle comes up to the point the chain does not stop. If I shut off the saw it will restart if I try it...

Inside Wood Gasification boiler w/1000 gallons thermal storage

Seems like OWBs are pretty common here so I thought I would share my install of a Attack DPXL-45 downdraft gasification boiler + 1000 gallons thermal storage installed in an outbuilding about 90ft from the main dwelling. Currently heating a 3400sqft house and the 1152 sqft building the...

Elm, yes but is it Red?

No leaves since this one just died off. about 18" diameter, growth rings tighter on the other side. Bark came off in sheets after I dropped and bucked. This one had leaves last summer or I would have got it then.

    CB 6048 questions

Looking at a place out of town with a few acres, location is Southern MN. Place comes with a CB 6048 of 2008 vintage that is supplying a HX in the propane FA furnace plenum, and another HX hanging in the 2 stall attached garage. Home was built in 2004, 3500 SQ FT and should be fairly well...

need Hickory source near Menomonie WI

Wood cutting buddy called me up looking for some hickory to supply his sister who manages a Dickey's Barbeque in Menomonie. It's scarce around southern MN where we are and even if we did have it the drive is ~ 150 miles one way. Anybody closer have a source?

    Hung up Red Elm

So I'd been eyeing a good size standing dead red elm (~30") - but with live trees all around I left it until all other standing dead were removed. No clear drop zone and the land owner didn't want live trees taken out if possible. Well couple weeks ago I picked my best drop zone and gave it a...

    Did a little cutting-

And found this awaiting - mother nature dropped this nice firewood size red elm right onto the stump of another elm I dropped last fall - perfect for limbing and bucking ! Friday we had 4" of snow but by Sunday afternoon it was dry enough to be in the woodlot - did need to use 4 wheel...

    Locust?

Ok my first thought is honey locust but the leaf size and shape isn't quite right, the wood color isn't right for honey locust and the bark is a little too "potato chippy" for honey locust... so what is it?

Build more fence or move to the country? A**hat neighbors...

What is it about stacked firewood that brings me problems with my neighbors? I'd just resoved an issue with the neighbor to the north and it had been quiet for a 6 weeks when the neighbor to the south leaves a message on my machine Friday night- "could you please not get too carried away with...

Pine tree drop gone horribly wrong

Part time tree guy was in the neighborhood to drop 4 medium size pine trees. The first three went ok but I wasn't around to see how he dropped them. For the fourth and largest I was there to witness the whole debacle. Tree guy brings one of the tow behind lifts and proceeds to take off all...

Customer wanted firepit wood delivered 60miles one way....

I normally only charge $70 for a load: Firewood - Split/Seasoned That includes delivery up to 10 miles. Well I really didn't want to spend two hours driving but told the guy I would do it for $100. He came back with meeting half way so I said $85. So I met him half way and first thing I...

    Slippery (red) elm?

I think this is red elm- cut today. Most the leaves are kind of small for red elm but maybe it's too early in the growing season. The largest leaves definately have the "sandpaper feel". What do you say? Red or more Siberian? <a...

    Splitting aged elm rounds

I've heard here and other places that if one leaves elm in the round for a year or so it will split easier. Got to test this over the weekend. The summer before last I dropped off two loads of Siberian elm for the neighbor across the street. It sat there in rounds until Sunday morning when I...

Generator size to run 1hp Supersplitter

I finally pulled the trigger on the Supersplitter and went with the 1hp electric motor for power. 50% of my splitting is at home and 50% at the woodlot. The plan was to pick up a generator for at the wood lot (other uses for it too) It's not real clear just how much wattage is required for...

    365 X-torq availability in Midwest?

Seem to be having trouble finding this saw in MN. Dealers I've called so far only quote price on the older 65CC version and know nothing about the 70CC version. I've only found the red version (2166) but it's priced well over 6 bills even after the "drag it and bag it" promotion. The...

New powersports dealer has grand opening sale

Husqvarna power equipment was advertised at 30% off... So I walk in at the very start of the grand opening and ask the first sales tool what is 30% off, he says just the Husqvarna clothing. I'm thinking WTF, I don't even see any clothing by Husqvarna. I get pissed and start to leave.. but...

New 50cc saw with heated handles

I am considering adding an 50cc saw with heated handles for this winters cutting, my hands just don't take the cold weather like they use to. I already have 5100s, and a 346xp and both have been great saws.. The new dolmar 5105 doesn't seem to have a price advantange anymore, a 346xpg is...

    Wood I.D.

Cut some of this standing dead and thought it was some type of elm. These were cut from a live tree, bucked a month or two ago and just split today. There is a very small leaf that's emerged since bucked up, very non elm like. Splits nice, bright yellow when fresh cut and split then changes...

What to do with junk wood?

Ok, so I've got this lot (not mine) I'm clear cutting and pretty much have got all the decent wood that I need for my own use (ash, black cherry, misc). So now I've got lots of lesser quality wood like box elder, piss elm, a medium cottonwood and most of all siberian elm... could be 10 cords or...
