Dolmar / Makita Score from Home Depot Rentals

Nice find, I just did this upgrade to one of my 6401s love it so far, probably do it to my other one next season. Mine ran fine with no adjustments, haven’t put the tach to it yet. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

    Installing Welch plugs.

Her name is Palm, but the L is silent, she wasn't feeling nail polish today she was staying all natural with no enhancements

    Installing Welch plugs.

I just put in a Welch plug that fell out in my Makita 7910 build and the plug wasn't new but I flattened it out and still wasn't sealing so since I use pre-mixed fuels I used some of my girlfriends nail polish and it solved the issue for me. Ideally I'd rather not need something that might break...

Makita 6400 fresh 7910 rebuild, ran fine all day then suddenly rich

Thanks Smokey! I use the pre-mixed ethanol free gas you get at Home Depot and Lowe’s so I should be good for a bit. But I have a rebuild kit on the way and a new backup carb, but I used some nail polish to seal the last bit and glad to say the saw is back up and running well. I’m still shocked...

Makita 6400 fresh 7910 rebuild, ran fine all day then suddenly rich

Thanks, this won't deter me from continuing to help, plus it was my own fault I had the saw in the loader and didn't see the bump, still wouldn't have thought it would of hurt the saw any but guess I was wrong. Lesson learned don't transport saw in bucket, frustrating lesson but a lesson...

Makita 6400 fresh 7910 rebuild, ran fine all day then suddenly rich

Yes it was this welsh plug, finally was able find the part name last night [emoji846]. I put it back seems to be holding but it is still flooding, I'm hoping there is just some dirt in the needle as that's the only thing I didn't take out as it seemed to be functioning fine and the welsh plug...

Makita 6400 fresh 7910 rebuild, ran fine all day then suddenly rich

I took it apart and found a piece of metal that seemed to get dislodged from where it’s suppose to be, put it back still having issues, I’ll remove again and pull the need out and look deeper. Guess this serves me right helping out neighbors [emoji853] Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk

Makita 6400 fresh 7910 rebuild, ran fine all day then suddenly rich

Like the title says, I ran almost a tank through my fresh rebuild and ran great and strong, but it in the bucket of my tractor hit a bump and boom wouldn’t start and flooded, carb intake is visibly wet and when I did get it started it wouldn’t idle and bogged down at WOT. Any guess on what would...

    7900 Dolmar or Makita upgrade?

Well then I'm screwed and will never need to upgrade my 6401....I will lend it out and when they bust it by putting straight gas thru I'll have them pay to repair it.....thats a perfect plan....thanks.

    7900 Dolmar or Makita upgrade?

To get back in track... I decided that I will keep my 6401 the way it is seeing that it still runs strongs and I will have no need for a working used 6401 jug and piston....use it till its dead.....then upgrade it to a 7900... For now I found a couple prices on the 7900 tell me what you...

    7900 Dolmar or Makita upgrade?

I also was thinking the same thing wait till the 6401 was weak and thats why I was like just get a 7900 and once the 6401 poops out make it a 7900 then I will have two.... My sawin season is kind of over so I am in no rush but if I rebuild I want to do it when I don't have the over whelming...

    7900 Dolmar or Makita upgrade?

Back up saw would be great but its more of time efficiency instead of having down time to sharpen or change bars I just grab pull and go sawin..... Plus I have never bought a new Saw and figured I liked the 6401 why not try its big brother. but I'm still torn maybe I will replace the topend...

    7900 Dolmar or Makita upgrade?

Its for the extra 1.5 HP and the torque increase of the 79cc's plus I have a 16" and a 20" bar on the way and figure once I start clearing my back/side yard that it will come in handy to have the 20" bar on one saw and a 16" on and other so I can fell with the 20" and buck with the 16"...I know...

    7900 Dolmar or Makita upgrade?

Well unfortunately I do/will be doing enough sawin to support a small and large saw but I would like to be able to swap bars between the 2 saws thats why I was thinking to stay in the 7900 family of saws. Intent would be to keep a 16" bar on the 6400 with the occassional 20" and keep a 20" on...

    7900 Dolmar or Makita upgrade?

I want a bad a$$ saw have a Makita 6401 (HD Rental) it has served me very well I have gotten my money's worth out of the saw, but I want the bigger 7900 because I hear so many good things about it so I figured why not....now having 2 similar saw would be nice but I am curious should I buy...

    Which saw to buy?

I don't think there is anything wrong with his list but if it were me I would probably go with the Stihl, I am not a huge fan of outboard clutches so the 460/455/350 would be out...but thats my preference. If 13lbs brothers you and you want to get the most out of it get a 7900 and you will...

    Which saw to buy?

Well if you want to throw your list out the window and want a high quality cheap saw call your local HD rental departments the first week of the month and see if they are selling any Makita DCS6401's same as the Dolmar PS6400, I did from searching on this site and I don't regret buying a used...
