    MS361 muffler caps

Thanks folks! When I first got the saw I did run it with and without them to test, didn't feel any noticeable performance difference, and so left them out. I'll pop them back in to keep the crap out but if it quiets the saw at all they're coming out LOL

    MS361 muffler caps

I got a question. It might be stupid, but hey, can't get an answer unless you ask so here goes: When I bought my MS361 it came with two "caps" in the muffler openings. There was no mention of them in the owner's manual (didn't show them in any pics of the muffler in the manual either) so I...

Few hrs of work w/ 361

What kind of wood is that? Here's a pic of my meagre but sufficient shelterbelt cleanup program. White/American Elm. Nowhere near as big but the bigger pieces give the saw a work out.

Few hrs of work w/ 361

Excellent job!!! I'm always jealous when I see a tree that big, they are the exception to the rule for me. A good way to break in the saw! Bet you had a smile on your face the whole time.

    My new ms361!

Congrats on the new saw! As you probably already know... you won't be disappointed!! I picked one up last July and have put about 15 tanks through it. I bought the hard hat/face shield at the same time and am very happy with them. I got chaps form my wife at Christmas and use them whenever...

    Which saw should I buy?

Now I'm confused, is it the saw or the oil that cures cancer? :dizzy:

    Heating Canadian Style

Welcome to the site battlefordbuy. I don't run an OWB but do know -40 very well... then the wind picks up. Portage and Main is only 15 miles from here! Nice monster shed.

    Top down fire

The wood is well seasoned but I burn on firebrick so that could be the difference. Just an observation anyway, this method works very well. I'll try leaving some small gaps between my bottom logs to let the "ember rain" in there. That should help.

    Top down fire

I heard about this a few years ago and use it off and on. It is a good way to start a fire cuz you don't have to add fuel as soon. The TDF first fire lasts longer. It seems to work well but I do notice that the large logs at the bottom don't burn completely. The bottoms of them don't sit...

    361 spikes

Nope, no screws in bag with the outboard spike and invoice quotes individual part #'s, not the kit part #. I'll have to check with the dealer.

    361 spikes

The ceramic catcher was the cheapest of the three for me. All told $27. I bought the parts in June, shortly after I bought the saw, but didn't put them on until last week. When I opened up the parts bags there were no nuts and bolts for the outside spike. I can't believe they're not...

    What I did Wednesday Afternoon

I've burned a lot of pine (and spruce and tamarack), at home in a newer air tight wood stove and at the cabin in an old not so air tight stove, both with no problem. The trick is to know your stove and your wood. Keep an eye on the chimney, it will tell how your fire is doing. Pine burns...

    biggest 2100CD ON EARTH

Just catching up on my AS fix when I spied this thread and thought I'd share this pic of Romeo with his newest creation. I found it while googling "Romeo" and "crazy big saw". Notice that the saw is bigger than it looks in the other pics. And who knew he was a lefty? What is that...

How do I propogate a red maple?

Thanks, I've seen the cup thingys at Lee Valley but do like the simple approach (KISS theory). Any idea if the rooting hormone method have a good success rate on this species? I've heard differing opinions on propagating maples.

    Splitting elm

We were blessed to have a bunch of elm on the property when we bought it and since they have died off (a number of wet years and they are in low spots). I self-ID'd them to be white elm (American Elm) and am in the process of taking them down. The biggest was about 50 - 60 years old and 18"...

    How much wood/year?

Burned about 5 full cords this winter 1300 sq ft house, fuel oil furnace, Regency wood stove on main floor. I save about $1000 per year burning wood. Poplar for fall and spring, elm and pine for the dead of winter (which had a lot of -30°C this year).

How do I propogate a red maple?

I have about eight red maples that I planted three years ago. Most of them have branches shooting off from low on the stem that I would like to trim and root to lengthen the row. How can I get these shoots to root and then plant them?
