    Homemade tow behind mower.

That's an Ultra Classic in the background.

    Homemade tow behind mower.

Our deer lease used to have cows on it, but they're gone now so all the paths and common areas grew up with nasty vegetation. Here's a homemade mower/brush hog I built from a spare lawn-boy engine and Deere riding mower parts, I tow it with a John Deere gator. It works better than I could have...

    Be careful out there

I've honestly never heard of a loaded sapling, or a tree being under tension in such a way that it can come back and hit you. What causes a tree to do that, and what should I look for in the future so I can avoid them?

    Dolmar/Kita 510 vs Husky 450 vs Echo 530????

It's a fact of life in certain areas of the states.

    New Vs Used Saws

I voted depends on the deal. If I can inspect a saw before I buy and check the compression, look in the exhaust port, feel the bearings etc. I would buy used to save the money. I would balk at buying used from ebay if I was counting on something to make my living with.

    OT - 2 Stroke Mowers?

The head on the briggs flathead is easy to deck. I did my kids go-kart engine with sandpaper and it picked up some pep.

    OT - 2 Stroke Mowers?

Well, can't help ya much here on the two stroke aspect but I can wholeheartedly recommend the Toro Super Recyclers. I bought one three years ago and it is the best mower I've ever used. I just looked at them however they looked like they had been cheapened up a bit from when I got mine, the...

    Next year's firewood part II

Yeah yeah yeah, but a man's gotta know his limits! I'm just a poor hobbyist trying to stay warm, let me again stress POOR.

    Next year's firewood part II

Yeah, it's a big heavy saw. It can be converted to a 79cc saw for pretty cheap, but I don't need any more power.... right now......

    Next year's firewood part II

    6401 big(er) bar

Hey guys, just to let you know I ran my 6401 with a 25" Stihl bar and Stihl skip chain this morning. It pulled fantastic and slung chips like crazy, I wouldn't hesitate AT ALL to run this combo all the time if you need this much bar. I needed to cut through some bundles of oak that are 41-44"...

    Next year's firewood part II

Hey guys, I dunno if you remember this post... http://www.arboristsite.com/showthread.php?t=128745 But early in the year I brought home most of what I'll burn this winter. I got close to filling all my racks but throughout the summer I've burned some off in my fire pit and a couple racks...

    Crank needle bearings

I'm sure someone will chime in soon with truly good info... But until then I can tell you than when I had a Poulan 3400 with needle bearings, I thought they were a little losse because they had some up and down play. I read that that was normal and they tighthen up when hot. As far as I know...

    Stihl BR550 Backpack Blower RPM's?

I have one, never tached it. My dealer told me when they started selling them to lawn services that some of the hispanic workers repeatedly brought them back because they (being used to BR420's) thought they were running too slow and too quiet and therefore not blowing hard enough. The dealer...

    Got my first saw back

Way cool story. Reminds me of the guy who bought back his Corvette 30 years after it was stolen.

    Hearing Protection

I usually double up on plugs and muffs myself. I'm half deaf in my early 30's already.

    My first Stihl!

    Isn't the FS55R a two stroke?

    My first Stihl!

Yeah, I agree. I'm in a dilemma though. My SRM-2100 that I bought well used in the late 1990's is finally getting tired. Not a problem with compression or power but a combination of little things. The starter is starting to slip, I rebuilt the carb two years ago and it's acting up again, I...
