    Homelite Chainsaws

Thanks to you all for the quick replies. When I get a moment I'm going to take the saw to my local hardware store to pick up what I need to get the original baffle and muffler cover firmly installed. I'll report back when the job is done.

    Homelite Chainsaws

SXL Muffler Help Needed A friend just gave me a Super XL with an Automatic Oiler. I fixed a few issues (marginal crankshaft threads on the clutch side) and it runs great now, but it blows the muffler innards (baffle plus two screws and spacers) out a few seconds after starting. Before I put...

    When to replace fire bricks

In the manual for my Morso stove it reads that cracks in the firebrick are ok, but replace them when they start to crumble.

Who here cuts firewood exclusively with vintage saws?

I cut about 5 full cords each year with my three Macs: 10-10A, Pro Mac 10-10, Pro Mac 55. They get the job done and the neighbors always know when I'm cutting!

    Walbro Carbs

I recently rebuilt the Walbro carb on my friend's Mantis tiller. Wouldn't start at all before the rebuild; would start with difficulty after the rebuild. After goofing with it for several weeks I found that it would always start in a few pulls on full choke AND full throttle. Before my friend...

    McCulloch Chain Saws

Max RPM for Super Pro 70? I recently acquired a Super Pro 70 (see post #1780 of this thread). My Intertec manual says to "adjust high speed mixture screw to obtain optimum performance under cutting load". Alternatively, it would be nice to set the high speed screw with a tach. Would anyone...

    Chain saw parts problem

If you can't find a better price for a piston and cylinder, you could buy a new PS510 and use the smoked one you have now as a parts saw for the new one. That is unless you now have a bad taste in your mouth for Dolmar saws.

    McCulloch Chain Saws

New (to me) Super Pro 70 I had been looking for awhile for a 70cc Mac to go with my 10-10S and Pro Mac 55. I bought this clean Super Pro 70 recently for $100 (powerhead only). I cut with it for the 1st time yesterday and I was very pleased. One thing I did learn is that the decomp button...

Mccullough Timber Bear Dies after running about ten mins..please help

The tank vent for that saw is a duckbill valve on the cap itself, and is notorious for aging badly and, well, not venting.

Jotul Nordic 100 is Blinding and Gagging Me

I have a Jotul F100QT that I've been burning pretty hard for 6 years now. I have 5' of single wall stove pipe, then 13.5' of double wall chimney, all straight up. I start my fires with kindling on top of newspaper, and have never had the smoke problem you describe. I always start a fire...

Michigan man dead after tree he was cutting fell on him

Being from Pittsburgh I know a bit about the Steelers. Retired Steelers guard Steve Courson died when a tree he was cutting fell on him. I found these details online: Courson had been cutting down a 44-foot tree on his property, but a gust of wind changed the direction of its fall, and he...

Since your chain is bouncing off of it maybe it's a rubber tree?

    Chance At a NOS McCulloch!!

That's way too rich for my blood (I will stick with used 610's and 10-10's), but that is one beautiful saw.

    McCulloch Chain Saws

When I first replaced the fuel line on my ProMac 10-10 I also had some gas leaking where the line passes thru the wall to the carb. After reading a tip on here, I put several wraps of teflon tape around the fuel line where it passes thru the wall and that stopped the leaking.

    Pro Mac 610 warm starting

I have two 610's. It took me the longest time to diagnose my hard-starting problems. Turned out to be the duckbill valve on the fuel cap. It wasn't opening so it was hard to pull fuel up to the carb when trying to start. You may want to check out that possibility on your saw as well.

Pro Mac 10-10 Whats it worth?

I have several MACs including a pm10-10s that I got last summer for $75. A real clean saw that runs strong with a 20" bar. If your 10-10 is fairly clean and runs good realistically figure $50 to $100 or so. Of course anything older is ultimately worth exactly what you can sell it for.
