As near as I can figure, top plate cutting angle and side plate angle are derivative angles based on file height and top plate angle. Not directly set like height and top plate angle and basically just for info.

Splitting some uglies from the wrong side of the splitter. Focused on positioning the piece and activated the push plate with my thumb n the way. Happened quick from there. Pulled off the glove and thought OH CRAP.

Logic says the fuel. Also the easiest thing to eliminate. Make sure you dump the tanks, refill with fresh fuel and run long enough to be sure the fresh fuel is running the saws.
M B&S 8 hp is 318.5 cc. I'm not familiar with the predator engines but would think the 301cc would work. Don't know cost difference, 420cc certainly would work.
I still have my first .22 rifle and handgun as well. Rifle is a Sears 25 semi-auto (Hi Standard) that I got for Christmas the year I turned 12. Handgun is a Hi Standard Sentinel 6" I bought a few years later. Both have fired thousands of rounds and still fired occasionally.
I don't know details and haven't had the carb off mine. I do recall comments about the carb gaskets in rebuild kits blocking holes. Make sure yours matches the original. If needed i can try to dig in saved notes.
