    Starting a Cold Splitter

Neighbor wants to continue splitting into cold weather. tried to start his splitter this morning (about 30 degrees). No go. I'm guessing its the cold hydraulic fluid mostly. Not sure what he has in it other than certainly not ATF. I'm thinking a magnetic heater like this on the tank for a couple...

Single Wall Vs Double Wall stove pipe

My neighbor had a chimney fire about 5 weeks ago. They're having the entire stove pipe and chimney pipe run replaced. Stove had about 6 feet of single wall stove pipe then double wall chimney pipe for 20+ feet. Their current plan is to use double wall stove pipe for the 6 foot section then new...

    Be Careful Out There

I was busy splitting some chucks yesterday. In a moment of adjusting one that didn't want to split my left thumb got between the push plate and the chunk. In a split second I had the last section of my thumb barely attached. 2 hospitals and 9 hours later it's stitched back on and waiting to see...

    Stihl 4-mix engine oil

My stihl FS-110 weed whacker had been acting up. Bogging down, wouldn't rev back up. took it into the dealer, he said it was all gummed up from the oil I'm running (amsoil dominator). I seem to recall prior discussions that the 4-mix engines run best on (and perhaps need) Stihl Ultra. Anyone...

    What's happening to my oak?

I have a very large oak that has a significant black area on it. Can anyone offer an idea what's going on? Will the tree survive? Thanks.

    Stihl 036 Pro gas Leak

One of my 036's suddenly has a gas leak. I haven't had time to try to pinpoint where as yet. Any common leakage sites I should be looking at? Looks like the tank is part of a handle assembly if that's the issue. How expensive are those? Hard to replace? Thanks for any ideas.

    WCS Depth Gages

I'm getting ready to order some.....I see they have a 3/8" and a 3/8" Carlton. What's the difference? Which work with who's chain?

    Jammed Bar Tip

The roller tip on the bar of my Echo 4910 jammed tight today while cutting. Anyone with thoughts on freeing it? I was going to clamp the bar down and tap the teeth with a punch and hammer unless someone has a better option. If I can't free it I think I've read that Poulan bars will fit? Just...

    Echo CS-346 hard to pull

I've had the little saw for a number of years and really like it for limbing and small stuff. It's become very hard to pull to the point I rarely use it. Once I can get it to start it runs well. I've pulled the plug and turned it over, pulled many times to make sure not hydro locked. Made no...

    Splitter with Tecumseh Engine

I offered to help a neighbor out with a Brave splitter that hasn't run in 5-6 years. Really just needs the Tecumseh engine worked on. Figured it would be an easy air filter, plug and oil change. Seems it has a governor and messed up linkage. I've worked on small engines a fair amount but am not...

    ChoppyChoppy

Anyone know what happened to him? Just disappeared. Used to be pretty regular, hasn't been on the site in a couple months. His website shows all wood out of stock.

    Large Splits Vs. Small Splits

I've seen several threads discussing the final volume of rounds vs. splits. My question would be about very large splits as opposed to fairly small splits. I bought a dump truck load that was sold as 3 cords. It was all pretty large splits. I split it down (most pieces split 2, sometimes 3...

Putting Them Away For the Winter

I'm getting ready to prep all my equipment for winter. I've always just drained and run everything dry. However, I have seen suggestions to do that and then put a little canned fuel in and run with that to wet the carb. Thoughts? Does it matter which canned fuel if you recommend using it...

    New 40-50 cc saw

I've got an MS250 that I like when its running but have a hell of a time starting. If I can't figure something out with it I'll be looking to replace with a saw in the 40cc+ to 50cc range. My thoughts are Makita 4300, Echo 400 or 4510 (or maybe a 490). Thoughts on these or anything else I...

    Cleaning out a muffler

I've got a Stihl BR420C blower. Wasn't running very well. Cleaned up the exhaust screen (if was really clogged), running well now. While I had the muffler off found the exhaust port on engine somewhat built up. The muffler is a sealed unit (and catalytic). Looking for thoughts on how to clean...

    Stihl BR420 Issues

My BR420 is acting up this year. Not coming up to speed. I'm getting oil on the air filter (looks to be coming from the mix but not at all sure how). Also getting oil leakage out of the blower housing. Not making much sense to me how the oil is getting on the filter. Lots of leaves left to...

    Echo Disappointment

I'm considering another Echo. Their "One-day promotion" drop down used to show what dealers had the deal what days. Not only is it now 15% not 20% but it offers no idea what days it might be.I'd probably shop if I knew what dealers and days.
