    Wrist injury from starting chainsaw

one thing to keep in mind about the decompression valve is it will pop back up if you get any combustion at all, sometimes without being very noticeable. If your pull cord is stopping mid pull then there's a good chance the button popped up between pulls and you weren't aware. Try getting in the...

    7200 Volts Vs Log Truck

Absolutely it will jump tires, steel belted as they are, their insulating quality is highly overestimated, in fact not to be considered insulaters at all.

Convince me that a hard hat is necessary

My 020 kicked backed at me about 5 years ago, the tip hit something just right and it flew right at my forehead, by far the closest call I've had doing treework, it wasn't your normal kickback, it felt like someone wound up and hit me with a ball bat, gave me whiplash. fortunately I was wearing...

    The MS 200T died...

Does your climber let sawdust and grit get behind the air filter when he cleans it? It's easy to get crap in there if your not careful, and that will definitly score the piston. MS200t's are great saws that are built for hard use, being a really FAST climber will not degrade`the life a saw...

    Why In Spanish?

Many immigrants that built this country never learned English as fluently as their their native language and many never learned it at all, but they died as American as anyone. It's the second and third generations that grow up with English as their first language that have no trouble speaking...

Can you use the crane hook as your t.i.p.and rigging point?

I think that is a well thought out letter and hopefully will allow the standards to continue to evolve with tree care professionals who actually care to be compliant. The fact that the 2006 z-133 even address tying in to the crane is a huge step in the right direction, IMO, even if the language...

Kicked out at 10 feet-with major consequences

The linemen in Seattle are taught to climb without a safety (until in position).

    Busted AL climber

that story reminds me of the the recall on the original Gecko climbers, same situation, one snapped on a climber during a job, prompting a recall.

    saftey techniques for cutting out

I use my climb line as a safety when I'm working, I choke it to the tree using the steel snap on itself, then I keep an extra hms biner handy to put the tail after the prussic into a munter, that way if I kick out while I'm making a cut or when the top goes over the rope won't slide down the...

    Crane madnesss?

2006 ansi z 133 regs address this, I don't have them in front of me but I recall an exception is made to allow for riding the crane and load together if the tree is unsafe to climb. I may be wrong but that is what I recall at the moment. Accepted methods of attachment to the bal are also...

loud cracking sound chuncking down spar

Thats a fairly normally occuring phenomenon when chunking down spars, it's characteristic of some woods especially, such as maple. locusts frequently have internal splits that spiral down the grain of the tree and are released when a short chunk is cut off them. It's very characteristic of Big...

    rig guy wirestops

cool! I just looked at their website and see that they sell safety caps for the termination now. They didn't have those to my knowledge when I was installing them, it's been a couple of years. I never liked leaving sharp edges behind.

    rig guy wirestops

how did you achieve a smooth surface termination? Don't the separated cable strands protrude past the stop, if even a small amount, thereby leaving sharp edges behind?
  19. C

    rig guy wirestops

I've installed a few of these, what I like about them is that you only have to drill the diameter of the cable, thus allowing you to set the cable in smaller diameter stuff. What I don't like about them is that once set the termination at the stop is like a bundle of barb wire, couple that with...

    spikes kicked out yesterday

Hey Boston, so do they still teach the linesman to free climb in Boston? I know a few tree guys that went on to be linesman and I know that falls like you describe are not uncommon. The funny thing is one guy I know would never dream of free climbing a tree with hooks and he promptly busted...
