you only need the crank case flywheel side and part of the drive side intact. for your first time cutting one do it in small chunks and take your time. I would go with a single carb as it will make tuning way easier to accomplish.

There easier to do after a cold start.... I have to think too much when I run over the block.

Small end rod failure, Separated on the up stroke, then threw the broken end through the piston skirt. Just my guess. I didn't see the small lines on the sides of the piston or cylinder that the clips leave behind when they fail. Don't feel bad my last failure cost me about $4000 all that...
