    usstove hotblast furnace

I put a larger furnace filter inline and have changed it 3 times this season. With the old setup, I was constantly having dust getting sucked into the blowers and pushed upstairs, but this year we have yet to have to dust our house.

Hot Blast - Larger Blower Unit

If you're happy with it and it's heating your house fine, I can see not investing more money. Let it keep saving you money and save that money until you get a new furnace if you ever need one. I wouldn't have changed mine into series if it worked well the other way. On the topic of savings...

Hot Blast - Larger Blower Unit

Good looking install! Are you finding that even on low speed, it will blow more air than the little blowers it came with? Do you have it hooked to the limit switch?

Hot Blast - Larger Blower Unit

Thats great news! I don't know why the hotblasts don't just come with larger blowers in them. With more airflow, I'll bet you'll burn the same or less wood heating a larger space now. Do you have pics?

Hot Blast - Larger Blower Unit

The blower would have to be a 2 speed blower to have the switch on it. If you have more than 2 (3 with a ground) wires going to the blower, you would hook power to the different wires for different fan speeds. If you have a one speed blower, you might be able to install a rheostat, kinda like...

Hot Blast - Larger Blower Unit

It will definately work better than the original blower that you were using. Mine had 2 original blowers on the back and the bigger one pushed a lot more air, even on low speed. The little ones don't do well with any kind of resistance from the ductwork you hook it to.

Hot Blast - Larger Blower Unit

I had this blower hooked up on mine for about a year before switching to to a series install with the main furnace. The bigger blower really helped moved the air, even on low speed. I had a switch on it for on/off and low/high. I still have it if interested :-) matt

    $$$ Firewood Cost

Kinda related, but I see Walmart in our area now sells "All Natural Firewood" and it's $6.00 for a box with 3 or 4 pieces in it. I wish I had some empty boxes, I'd retire. It's kiln dried though and I don't have anything that fancy.

    chimney sweep log

Here's a good read from an independant accredited lab that tested them in 2001. I wrote to them to see if they could test the gazelle as well.

    chimney sweep log

I used 1 a season for the past 3 years with decent results. It seemed to dry the creosote up and it all falls into the cleanout which I emptied right after. The important thing is to read the instructions, which states ONLY to put it into your stove over coals and not just throw it into your...

Some advice needed on Add-on furnace installation options

I agree with the basement installation. My basement stays warm from the radiant heat from the furnace and ducting. Here's some pics of mine, we just finished it up.

    us stove 1557m , 1537g

1557m I also have used the 1557M for 3 winters now. I didn't clean my ash pan enough I guess, mine was warped so much it doesn't fit together anymore and now I know why :-) I have been altering my setup since day one, using different ducting and blowers and limit switches and for this season...

    usstove hotblast furnace

I completely agree about the air leak issue with the hotblast. I tightened up the door and keep the damper in the door closed all the time and only use the ash damper when burning. The ash damper is not usually opened over 1/2 turn and I am very surprised that I can shut everything completely...

    usstove hotblast furnace

I also have the 1557M and use it to heat 3700 sq feet. This is my second winter of owning it and finally have it set up how I want it. I first tried hooking it to my main ductwork which has a trunk about 50ft long and 18 vents. No air actually made it upstairs from the 2 little blowers...
