    Or, god forbid, ask questions.

Exactly. That will be the last time I share anything here.

Need advice felling this forked, split tree

THANK YOU. The whole reason I posted here was to get helpful advice and constructive criticism. I didn't come here to be insulted for my lack of experience. Where exactly have I insulted anyone? Should I not be offended when someone needlessly throws insults my way? Please, offer advice...

Even I agree it would have been safer to have an ideally-prepared chain, but this crap is just ridiculous: Again, forgive me for not having a career of cutting down trees every chance I get that fills me with the arrogance to be condescending to someone asking for advice on an advice forum.

Please inform me what good advice I ignored and forgive all of us, oh lord of logging, who don't do this for a living, but prefer to learn from research and experience and maintain our own land with our own tools and skills.

I sharpened it right before I started the job. I just didn't take down the drag teeth. Like I said, I noticed the mistake once I started cutting, but I decided to just go with it rather than stopping, filing the rakers, and restarting. It's a minor mistake. I acknowledged it. I'm sure it's common.

Thanks! I would say "agreed", but that's not the first time I've made that mistake and I'm sure it won't be the last :bang:

    Your Favorite Looking Saw

Seconded! I have a couple of XL12s that look identical to yours; bow bar and all! Also, I absolutely LOVE my Dolkita BB! This thing just looks funky, is light, and cuts like a mother...

Trust me, that saw has balls. It's an 85cc Dolkita Big Bore. It just seems weak because it's running dull full-comp on a 32" bar completely buried in hard white oak and I was making the mistake of (subconsciously) compensating for the inadequately-prepared chain by forcing it too hard.

Need advice felling this forked, split tree

Ok folks, I've finally taken it down; only 6+ months late! A little backstory: the land actually belonds to my grandfather (Papa). Once I was prepared to take down the tree in December, he changed his mind about wanting me to take it down. I think he was hoping that the tree would heal. Fast...

    Check out my custom splitter!

You're probably not that far off. Papa built this thing while he was learning to weld and these modifications/repairs have been my first serious welding project.

Learned a lesson from ruining a Dolkita big bore P&C

Both kits I received were identical; they came with the "C" clips. Has anyone used "G" clips in a similar saw? From what I've read (with a grain of salt, though it makes sense to me), the "G" ones create too much imbalance to hold reliably without creating issues. They sure would be easier to...

Need advice felling this forked, split tree

Sorry for disappearing, guys. I've been really busy lately with those pesky "real" life responsibilities (blegh), so I haven't taken this thing down yet. I'm pretty sure I'll take it this Saturday when I have an assistant. I did clear the landing site today, though. I'd hate for that beast to...

Learned a lesson from ruining a Dolkita big bore P&C

I bought a DCS 6421 with the 84cc BB kit from Bailey's a little less than a year ago. I probably put about 10 hours on the 64cc and another 10 on the 84cc. I was recently bucking an old hickory when the saw suddenly lost compression and died. I gave a few pulls on the starter rope and the piston...

    Check out my custom splitter!

My grandfather originally made it about 30 years ago and it's been sitting in the woods for about that long. I recently cleaned it up a bit, made a couple improvements, and put it to use. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done pretty well. I'd love to get some feedback...

Need advice felling this forked, split tree

Thanks, Brad. Straight to the point  Ok folks, I think I have a pretty good plan, thanks to all your advice: make a 90deg shallow open-faced notch to allow it to fall toward the lean bore completely through behind the notch to leave about a 2" hinge cut from the bore all the way...

I've got another 40+ acres with plenty of big oaks like this one and the acorns are falling like mad this year. Not to mention hickory nuts, persimmon, grain, etc. Bambi has plenty to eat :cheers At least one big tree like this falls every year from ice, wind, lightning, and disease. I...
