Costs of Selective harvesting and Clear cutting

So you want to use second-hand info off an internet forum (a good one, i'll give you that!) as fact in a debate? Let me tell you a problem with america kid. The problem is exactly what you are doing. Reading about something new to you on the internet, then passing off what you read as fact...

Someone please talk me out of a 660!

I usually cut with my 361, but occasionally use my buddies 660. That saw gets heavy, made me start looking at 460's.

    wood burning question

There are many different prices for the various ratings. The local guys would know best.

    wood burning question

I burn both eastern red cedar and black walnut. There is not much a difference in my eyes. The black walnut never impressed me much, and the cedar burns hotter and longer than you would think due to it's oily nature. Dry it, burn it, enjoy it.

Changing pitch from .325 to 3/8 on my 026

I run a 16" bar with 3/8 full comp on my 260. Not the greatest setup in the world, that's for sure. I do it because everything else I use is 3/8. I have found that the chain needs to be detuned (tall rakers) or the saw is terrible to run.

    Panic!!

That's funny! I did the same thing this week! Took me 3 days to find mine though, it was laying in the shed on the Speeco. Thought I was gonna have to buy a new one!

Which one of you guys is this????

No different than putting a youngster on a 4-wheeler or dirt-bike. I like it! He has obviously been shown how to run the saw safely, and that chain looks to be a low kickback chain that has been detuned.

    Don't Buy Junk Part 2

I'm with Steve. This is ridiculous. Getting food from the Hy-vee is better than the farmers market? Gun hunting is better than bow?(Anyone who thinks so has never had the thrill of dropping something with a bow.) Don't like GM? What, should I buy foreign? Utter waste of time.

    Trauma and Wound Treatment

PPE goes much further than just chaps.(Which I will admit to not wearing.) When we are talking about PPE it also means gloves, glasses, face shields, earplugs, earmuffs, hardhats, etc. Gloves are one of the most important. Most cuts to the hand are relatively minor, but have you ever seen...

    Firewood Conveyor Motor

You would have to do a multiple pulley setup. Otherwise you would end up with about a 60" pulley on the conveyor.

    Trauma and Wound Treatment

Preset #9 is always pre-programmed for 911. Works on all phones that have not had it disabled. Wear ppe and take a first aid/cpr class. Having ANNUAL first aid/cpr training will offer confidence in the stressful situations you are hoping to avoid. But again, safety is #1. It can be tough...

    Round length while cutting

Interesting disscussion. I just eyeball everything when I cut by myself. It gets easy after you do it long enough. Most of my logs end up between 17-19". Might get a few oddball lengths every now and then, but not too much. No need for perfection. When I get help it's a different...

Hope you heal up quick. Sounds like it would've hurt like a #####.

Do you run your hydraulic splitter in the rain?

Just be sure to run the ram back in before quitting for the day. Actually, you should do that all the time anyways. I put a breather filter on the hydraulic tank to help keep water/dirt out. That factory setup is a joke. I used one of these filters...

    Splitting Locust

Sounds like the black locust I have here, but I throw chips with a sharp chain. When splitting after it lays for a while it is almost like it gets stringier. Worth the work though!
  19. bore_pig

Well, I broke down and got one.

Well said, I experienced the same thing. Also found that my Fiskars will split anything that an 8lb maul will. No need to carry the maul around unless it is 10lb or more.
