Old 89 f150 is no longer

I Fround a nice GMC Sierra crew cab. Seems to have evey option available on it. I'm reading through the manual and finding new stuff every page it seems. I finally gave up on the old truck. I sprang a coolant leak and I had to ruin it hot a few miles, put it in shop to bypass the leak...

    Log splitter down

It is a new Black Diamond 25ton, Briggs engine. Not even one season on it yet. 2 days ago, I fired it up. It ran real ratty for a couple minutes and then normally. I split a small load of rounds. Today I fired it up and it would only run on choke. The longer I ran it, the more choke it...

    Fixing gloves

I am now patching the holes in my leather gloves. I hate throwing away a good pair of gloves becuase one or two fingers have holes. I tried covering the holes with Gorilla tape. Works great and seem to outlast the original leather. 'A short piece wrapped around the finger while wearing the...

    Stihl saws banned by Osha?

On a tractor forum in a chainsaw section I saw a report that Osha has banned Stihl saws due to fuel geysers when hot due to the 'flippy caps'. Seems opening them rapidly can cause fuel blow out on the operator and has resulted in bad burns. I doesn't sound right to me. If true it wouild have...

    Lost a day

Lost a day due dto a a $5.00 part. All bundled up to go split wood, on second pull of the cord it backfired, yanked handle ou of my hand for a direct hit on the plastic shutoff on the fuel line. Broke it off course. Took me an hour fooling around trying to get the fuel line disconnected -...

    the big oak

This is a test to see if I can post a picture. I finally found out how to downsize a pic in "My Pictures" on the computer (I hope) This is th e big oak tree that I put down about the middle of last month. Finally finished processing the limb wood. Came to just a hair less than 3 full cords...

    The big oak

I think I have managed to upload a pic here. I harvested around 2 cord of wood just from the limbs. Log measured 4 1/2 ft across at the butt, 25' long, all solid, no rot. I did run into one small branch that was dead but not rotted. I did not need the wood and every round would have had to...

    House bound

I'm already into 'chainsaw withdrawal' symptoms and only been out of the hospital for 24 hours. Back surgery for arthritis in L4, L5. Doc says he cleaned out a lot! Bad part is no pain but I am basically restricted from doing ANYTHING for 3 weeks and lift nothing more than about 10 lbs...

So it has come to this

Loaded up yesterday to continue taking apart a big maple (36" butt log). Who would a thunk that with two almost new top-line, pro-grade saws (ms362 and ms441CM Magnum) I would come home without every cutting anything. Left house to PUllman, WA to pick up 5 chains (22 mile) thence to the site...

    Late customer

Why do they wait? Had one show up today, wants 1 cord willow. Glad to sell it as I am overstocked. But...Yesterday was the end of a 2 week dry spell. Ended yesterday with about 6" of snow, fairly damp (good snowman quality). Of course the wood that is dry is at the far end of the small...

    Rocking chains

:baba: My brother had 3 mystery trees removed 2 years ago. Tree service delivered, as asked, them to his pasture. I, needing something to do, agreed to cut them into 16" chunks. I didn't want the wood and he had promised it to a neighbor. Neighbor doesn't have cutting equipment. Okay, this...

Looks like 'wooding' is over for the winter

Caught the late weather report tonight. One more day of good weather then rain (possibly snow also) for the next 6 days. We are already well into what should have been our wet season bu past week and a half have been all dry. Can't get into the wood lots when it is wet. I do have a lot of...

    I am one stupid idiot.

Friday I fueled up my new Echo top handle. Started right up then slowed down, put, put..put...put...silence. Now what is wrong with it! I've been having problems with it since new (mostly my fault). Started to try to start it when I stopped and mentally pictured oil going neatly in the gas...

    Wood for smoking?

Cleared an old dead Poplar that fell into a farmer's field. Spotted 4 old and long dead brushy trees. Look like apple. I know several people who would take green apple for smoking but is dead and dry also usable for smoking?

    Amount of gas used

I got curious as to how much gas I put through the saws. I set aside a 5 gallon can to be used for nothing but the saws. Last week I started on the 3rd can full. Lot of fuel to put through a 193T, 310 (very old but still kicking), 361, 441. 441 is a gas hog but it doesn't get used all that much.

    Working on a pile

Tree service dropped off a couple loads of black locust. I didn't need it but it sure is nice wood. Worked on it yesterday for 4 hours, 5 hours today. I may have it all done except for the big pieces (to the right in the picture) from the butt cuts tomorrow. It isn't splitting nice like...

    Another score

Young lady stopped by Wednesday, saw my huge wood piles, said she has been trying to get someone to take away a pile of logs - didn't know what kind but hardwood. I've been going stir crazy for 2 months now, figured, 'don't need the wood but gotta get out there behind a chain saw. Told her I'd...

    First chainsaw day of spring.

Okay, it was much but I was able to do a bunch of clearing around the wood piles yesterday, splititng a piling odds and ends with the splitter. Today all the awas left was the 'to be noodled' pile. Temp 44, clear skies, mud solid, not slimy. Excavated teh 441 from under the bench, tightened...

    Non "disc drive" snow blower?

A bit out of the forum subject but I am shpping for a new snowblower. I have a good 11hp Pouland but the tranny is that disc drive - I view thos as a cheap way to make a tranny and what you get is cheap 'slipping' soludtion. Everytime I get into a spot that needs some "grunt", the disc slips...
