    Help with bogging problem...

Thanks for the info Steve. Same gas, same mixture. But the second day when I had trouble starting it, I think I screwed with the idle and L and H adjustments and that screwed it up. Now it starts great again, but until it warms up it bogs when I try to get it up to cutting speed. I'm using the...

    Help with bogging problem...

Thanks for the info guys. And thanks for the link! I'll be headed-home with a printed copy of that to work with this weekend. From the sounds of it there's NO doubt that I have a lean L and/or H jet setting and I want to fix that asap before I torch my new toy. Thanks again!

    Help with bogging problem...

Thanks for the info andre. You're right, it definitely shouldn't run like that, so I'll keep on working on it until it works right. I must've done something to it on that second day when I had flooded it and then was trying to get/keep it running. Because I ran it for a good 1.5 hours on day one...

    Help with bogging problem...

Update... Took the day off from work yesterday to work with the saw more. Once she gets warmed-up she'll cut like a hot knife through butter. But until it's warmed up, it still likes to bog. Once it's idled for a bit, then I pump the throttle a bit to get it up into the powerband and it...

    Help with bogging problem...

Thanks guys, I got 'er goin' again. It was lean on the L jet. I went out, got it cleaned up and got it to idle for a bit and warm-up again. Tuned the L jet the way you told me and it was running better. Tuned the idle a bit more and put the H jet to the setting the manual recommended and got...

    Help with bogging problem...

Compression is fine. Used the Echo oil at the recommended 50:1 mixture (one 2.6oz bottle to 1 gallon). I forgot to mention that I did overfil both the oil and the fuel yesterday and had to wipe up the excess. Going out there now to take a look and see if maybe I plugged-up something with...

    Help with bogging problem...

Hi all. I just purchased a NIB Echo CS-400. Used it for about 1.5 hours yesterday with no issues whatsoever. Started within a couple of pulls and ran fine while cutting-up some pretty hardwood. I didn't run it too hard because I wanted to break it in easy. I started and stopped it several times...

    Noob background and question...

Thanks for all the kind and informative replies guys. I really do appreciate them and thanks for making me feel so welcome. I will definitely be browsing these forums a lot to soak-up as much as I can here. The saw ships today, so I should have it sometime next week and be ready to start the...

Good point. And we certainy do have a LOT of that stuff around here. I got into this whole chainsaw deal because I had two trees' worth of "free" wood (guess it's not free now!), but after that I'll have to secure more wood and it will likely be those types that I'll end-up with.

Good to know... thanks! I suppose that the bark is basically worthless for burning then? I have looked at the Oregon 91V chain and will definitelty try to go that route and a 16" Oregon bar as well. Would you recommend a solid bar or one with a sprocket? I still don't know the differences yet...

    Noob background and question...

Thanks... will do! I will have to go with just a 16" setup as it looks like the CS-400 is only a 16 and 18" saw (from the specs on their site anyways). I read somewhere (here on this site maybe) than I should mix this saw at 1/32 instead of the recommended 1/50. I would like it to last a...

Me too! I like my wife being soft and womanly. She supports and respects me for being a man. But she's happy to let ME be the man. Which is a good thing cause I'd make an UGLY woman!

    Noob background and question...

Hmmm... food for thought. The main reason I wanted a tarp on there is that the wood pile will be close to the alley and I kind of wanted to make it harder for people to steal wood. It'd be real easy for them to grab a bunch as it is. But I have been wanting to put-up a fence back there and this...

BTW... the wife laughs at my eagerness and excitement about this new chainsaw passion. She says I sound like Toolman Tim Taylor ("ho ho ho") when I talk about it. Women just don't get men and their tool-love I guess... :greenchainsaw:

Good advice and makes sense. I'm sure I'll want to try the 16" Oregon setup down the road, but yeah... might as well try it with what I've got and get to know it that way and then have something to compare it to. I do plan to get good at sharpening. I take great pride in sharpening my knives, so...

Thanks for the info and pic computeruser. What kind of wood is that? That's the kind of wood that I have. I've stated that it's cottonwood, but there is no cotton that comes from it. But it didn't look like elm to me either. BTW... The CS-400 has the 3/8" setup on it stock. It looks like when...

    Noob background and question...

My wife rolls her eyes at guys and their collections (I've got guns, guitars, knives, etc). So when I told her there were guys on this site who had like 20 saws she gave me a "what in the world for" look. I LOL'd...

Thanks Log_Splitter! The wood stove is still sitting in my garage, and it's doubtfull that I'll be getting it installed in the house before next fall at the earliest. So I thought I'd just cut all this wood up and put it under a tarp behind the house to cure for the next 8 months or so. The...
