Interesting thread. Thinking about building the 660 kit. About how long does it take to put together?

Would this be a good work saw? Or ported for performance over longevity?

    550xp keeps dying

I actually bought a used one from Tradin Post before this new one and it was doing the same thing. This saw seems smoother running and less vibration than my 346's. If I can get the 550xp to perform properly I'll ditch my 346's!

    550xp keeps dying

Thanks for your replies. I'll run a few more tanks through it. Maybe after it's broken in it'll "auto tune" itself. If not I'll take it in for diagnosis. I was wondering how common tjis might be.

    550xp keeps dying

Just bought a new 550xp. I've only run 3 tanks through it, but from an idle sometimes it will die when revving to start a cut. If it wasn't AT I could just adjust the carb. Anyone else experience this? What can be done about it?

    Sold husqvarna 550xp

Running Mystik synthetic oil, 50:1 with 93 octane fuel. I mix 5 gal. weekly & all saws get same mix. Video of a saw that won't start wouldn't tell much or be very interesting. Probably ran 5 tanks through it, but wouldn't idle. Always felt like it was holding back on top end too, but of there'...

    Sold husqvarna 550xp

Could I trade up on one I got from you a few months ago? Barely ran when I got it, replaced the fuel filter, ran okay but wouldn't idle. Shelved it, cause I need reliable working saws.

    Makita 6401

This is a great thread! I have a stock 7900 & 6400bb that have both been down for awhile because I didn't want to pay the $120 my dealer wants for a coil. And yes, I believe this a problem with these models. Has to be more than coincidence for this to happen on both saws.

    Husky 445 mods?

Yes, I did retune, but , the 2 redmax 3200's I MM only lasted a year. The 2 that I'm running now unmoddedhave lasted 2 ears still running strong. I was told this summer that you can't just do a MM on a stratified engine without other mods? The 445 is light with good antivibe, I would just...

    Husky 445 mods?

I've heard that this saw responds well to modifications. Haven't found anything in the search. I did a muffler mod on another stratified saw (Red Max) and they didn't last as long before scoring the cylinders.

    dolmar piston

I have two 5100's that I'd like to replace/repair the pistons on. Does this piston look like it can be polished up? Anybody have a couple of used pistons in decent shape they'd like to sell? I've got new rings for 'em.

    Hard starting 088

Still having a hard time starting it. I don't have a rebuild kit for the carb and really need to get it going to start a job with it. Took the carb apart and the diaphragms were okay, shot carb cleaner thru all orifices with jets out. Put it back together, got it started w/o the covers on...

    Has anyone tried this saw?

About 10 years ago, I remember a saw rep telling me that the difference in material cost from the smallest to the largest saw they made was $25.
