Safely taking down a 28" ash

Anyone who quotes you a price to remove a tree based on DBH without seeing it is an idiot. How can you give someone a price to remove a tree without knowing it's condition, targets, and access? Get some estimates for reputable tree companies in your area. If you want to know if they are...

What are the most comfortable climbing spikes?

Gecko IIs Wolf claws suck. Really uncomfortable

I vote disc. Really like my bandit 254.

posion ivy VS. velocity & e2e selection

Velocity over poison ivy. Lava over velocity. True blue is junk. Carry on.

    Tree spikes

Weight was the biggest factor when I bought my spikes. I went with Gecko II's before the CF's came out. If you prefer a gaff with a straight shank instead of the bend in the gecko's you could get some titanium buckingham climbers.

    Rope Bridges

I use a micropulley attached to my bridge and a hitchclimber as my pulley on my climbing system. I've climbed with the swivl, it was too bulky in my opinion and didn't run on the bridge very smoothly. On a side note, its odd to me that everyone and their brother wants a cougar when its a...

tired of being on the ground

Be careful what you wish for, I was working on a point the other day with wind gusts up to 50mph dead wooding a 100ft oak tree. I'd have preferred to be on the ground any day.

are petzle vertex helmets worth tha price?

Short answer, yes. Long answer, they are worth the money because they give you much better sight lines within the tree, don't fall off when you are throwing a throwball, nor will they fall off if you swing, hit your head and then do something else. Not to mention, you don't look like a common...

    Cant decide between a ms362 or 441

If you have a 66 and an 88, then I would get a 361. They have less power than the 441 but the weight difference is huge. I run 25" bars on my 361 and 460 and use the 361 for everything short of bucking up hardwood logs. If you need a bigger bar, switch to the 66.

    New Job maybe?

FWIW, "all the scientific stuff" is why we don't top trees. Why we prune young trees the way we do so they become quality trees in the future. Its why IPM is such a money making enterprise for those that do it.

    New Job maybe?

Rydnruff, I'm looking to buy some equipment to get my side business growing so maybe I can one day get my own business started up. I'm up in Baltimore but would definitely be interested in hooking up to check out the stuff. Looking for a chipper, maybe some bigger ground saws, and rigging gear...

    New Job maybe?

Maryland has a lot of good tree companies, unfortunately on the eastern shore there are more butchers than arborists. Between Baltimore and DC there are a number of reputable companies. Bartlett has a few offices. Carroll Tree and A and A are pretty good. Richards, Ballards, and Arborquest...

    Home made friction saver

Agreed on using SRT. I just started using it, and once you get the motions down, its fantastic, and very fast. Once you get to your crotch, set your friction saver, and off you go.

    Home made friction saver

My god, now we're going to introduce splicing into the equation? Taking a look at my gear bag today, thinking about this topic, I have alot of expensive equipment, only half of it is used for life support. A friction saver is directly related to your life support system. Stay out of the bar two...

christmas money! recomend me some good spurs

How often are you using your hooks? For 250 you could buy a brand new 200ft hank of lava and a nice new Zubat. You'd use those every single day

    Home made friction saver

In the process of trying to save a buck, you may never make it to Afghanistan. If you don't have the money for a friction saver, just natural crotch, it HAS to be safer than making one.

christmas money! recomend me some good spurs

My vote is for Gecko II's. Lighter is better

    Home made friction saver

I have to ask. Why are people so insistent on making stuff for themselves at home? Port-a-wraps, friction savers. This stuff can be life or death, spend the extra few bucks, buy stuff that has been quality tested and approved for industry standards.
