    What Moisture % is acceptable??

Why moisture content is important in our area. (Fairbanks) Hi all, I was searching this forum looking for any information on moisture meters good or bad types etc. and came across this post. I can probably explain (since the original poster may not be coming back) why moisture content is so...

    I saw it on Ebay/Craigslist

http://anchorage.craigslist.org/tls/1079616685.html I don't know anything about this saw, just thought I'd put it out here. I tried a quick google search and didn't get any info on what this saw is.

Ever try this when it's really cold out?

-50 F works well http://www.liveleak.com/view?i=7d06490726 This video shows it pretty well, it usually works best at -50 degrees or colder.

Are you ready for the COLD weather coming?

I believe most people use 6 to 8 cord a year up here. Birch and spruce in interior Alaska.

    Gloves for tending my fire.

I use welding gloves also, still have about half a dozen marks on my upper forearm and bicep :censored: but I think it all comes down to being more careful. My burns come from bumping the hot steel while loading the stove and they could all have been prevented if I was paying attention...

Are you ready for the COLD weather coming?

Yup, -45 to -50 (or a little colder) the last 6 days and nothing warmer than -40 for 2 weeks. Sure am enjoying all of my hard work cutting, hauling, stacking wood last spring. Just keep the stove burning hot, and enjoy!

    Blaze King Classic Woodstoves

Blaze King I have the Blaze King Princess Ultra (house is about 1500 sq. ft.) and couldn't be happier with it. The owner of the company that installed it for me said that he was having a hard time getting the Blaze King stoves due to high demand. This was about 3 years ago and he was going to...

Who has become a weather nut too?

Weather has been the same all week here, -30 to -50 actual air temps and no end in sight. Glad the wife is at home to keep feeding the wood stove. She brings the rounds in the house and splits with our electric splitter, I come home 14 hours later to a hot meal and even hotter stove. Next...

    Electric wood splitter

Yeah, not ready to give her up just yet. I really don't want to rub it in but she claims she is going to run it while I am out cutting and hauling loads with the ATV this spring. Just an added bonus if she does. I didn't mention that she can cook and bake with the best of them did I? Ok...

    Electric wood splitter

DR 6 ton I bought a DR 6 ton off CL for $350. I started a thread on it a month or 2 ago. I am in Alaska so spruce and birch are what I am splitting. It has worked great and I still have it inside the house! I brought it in to check it over really well after I bought it and the wife said it...

    ATV Recommendation

Honda or at least SRA I recommend Honda (Foreman or Rancher) but solid rear axle is the main thing I'd be looking for. I use a Foreman 500 now and had a 450 before that. Both were well suited for hauling and pulling. I attached a couple pics. 2 of the new machine and 1 of the old one in...

    Craigslist splitter score!!!!!!!!!!

Equipment tag The tag says 120v/60Hz, 1.8hp, 15Amp and 3450 rpm. I suppose I could shoot it with an rpm gun while in use to see the rpm also.

How often to change hydraulic fluid in Splitter???

Cheap PM is right, if you are using a quality filter. Some people are not aware of the difference in filters, cheaper most likely is not better. I won't go into a brand bashing but there are some filter brands that I refuse to buy. I have cut open and inspected many brands of filters...

How often to change hydraulic fluid in Splitter???

Oil sample Someone out there may have access to an oil sample lab which can tell you exactly the condition of your oil. I personally wouldn't be changing it at 50 hour intervals. There are a lot of reasons why you may or may not change your oil and AKKAMAAN hit the nail on the head with his...

    Craigslist splitter score!!!!!!!!!!

Extension cord Thanks for the comments and ideas. I have 120.7 volts at the outlet and according to the chart I should drop to about 119 volts with 50 ft. of 10 gauge extension cord. The owners manual says to use 110-120v power supply so I'm guessing the 1.5 volt dropped with the...

    Craigslist splitter score!!!!!!!!!!

Question for you electrical savvy people out there. Owners manual says to use an extension cord that is 12 gauge and no longer than 33 feet. I understand this much but here is my problem. I would like to get electricity to the splitter 50 to 75 feet away from my power outlet. What are some...

    Craigslist splitter score!!!!!!!!!!

She is cool with it being in the house for now. She actually didn't even ask when I was going to take it back outside. If she should happen to stub her toe against it, I'm sure it would end up outside very quickly. Maybe I'll just keep in inside for another day or 2.

    Craigslist splitter score!!!!!!!!!!

Well I am a happy camper as of right now. I checked CL the other day and found a DR 6 ton electric splitter for sale. I was lucky enough to be the first caller (people calling him with offers within the next 5 minutes) and he held it long enough for me to get it. I had been looking for one of...

    Woodstove scare

Door gasket Check your door gasket to be sure you are getting a good seal. My stove did the exact same thing, turns out the gasket wasn't making contact all the way around. I had just replaced the gasket in mine but new doesn't always mean better. Since my stove has glass in the door, I...

I want to transfer wood stove heat to lower level of the house.

"So I wasn't nuts to think the heat from the stove would pull air from the 'room' below it ? All of the air that passes through that pipe was the cold air stacking up down stairs." Not at all, I am not saying it will move enough air for my situation but it definetly moves air! "If it isnt...
