Did you get the saw running yet?

I think too many people rely on compression gauges. If it starts it's got enough to run. If you try cutting with the saw and it's low on power it's low on compression. At this point the quality of his tester is pointless since he can't even pull the saw over,meaning too much compression.

Did you load the cylinder up with oil when you assembled it? You may have to pull the spark plug and pull it over and blow out the excess oil.

Long story short,I had a 460 and needed a crank and epicklein22 had a crank that spun on new bearings. I took his crank to a machine shop and had them knurl it to make a tighter fit. Andy used bearing lock and put it back together. So far 4 tanks run through it and it's good. He just dropped off...

I've dealt with floods all my life and the muddy silt is the problem. I'd be afraid it would get into the bearings. I've tried resurrecting several lawnmowers and they were ruined by crank bearing failure.

I slotted the ignition plate to advance the timing and it was pretty far. Im thinking try 2 to 3 key widths. I used a Stihl ignition,not a Nova but Im thinking its similar.

I repaired an ignition on one years ago and advanced the timing and used a timing light to set it properly. I dont remember how much it was but it was quite a bit. Ignition problems will show themselves as fuel problemsusually so I doubt that changing carbs will matter but try it cause its...

I'd hook a timing light up to it and see where it's set at. Guessing won't get you far.

Id start with the flooded theory. Pull the plug and see if its wet. If so turn the saw upside down with plug out and pull over to get gas out of crankcase. dry plug and try with no choke and full throttle. If its not flooded then start checking spark and compression.

What type of tool would you use the put the four holes in the screen if using it like a gasket? Also as already asked what type/size screen would be requires to be considered proper spark arrestor.

Cheap stainless will hold a magnet.

Id take the float bowl off while carb is on engine. See if the float is free and moves the needle. If so manually lift float to seat needle and see if gas leaks by. If it flooded that bad that fast I'd say the float is stuck on the pivot pin or needle is stuck open.
