Options for a cheap, lightweight, (vintage?) backup/trim saw

Plastic like the ms170, but I think it's fine for light duty occasional use. I've personally never had issues with plastic case saws as long as they are used as intended. Keeping them clean and maintaining a sharp chain goes a long ways too. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

Options for a cheap, lightweight, (vintage?) backup/trim saw

I would get a used ms170 or a used dolmar ps-34. If you decide on the ms180 I would buy an adjustable carb for it and do a muffler mod. The ps-34 already has an adjustable carb but can also benefit from a muffler mod. I've had both of these saws and they are hard to beat for their size and...

Want to Buy WTB Husqvarna 61/66/266/268/272 Parts

I just got some parts in this week from a couple members here. Let me pool my stuff together and see what I'm still missing. I'm pretty sure I need another top cover, fuel tank, and intake/carb parts. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

    My latest project

I've had really good luck so far with the farmertec stuff. I would have a failure on this saw though. Just my luck. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

I ordered a new piston and a oem wrist pin bearing. Hopefully they will be in soon.

    My latest project

Got to run the saw this afternoon some. It's really strong, but I had a bit of bad luck later on after I made the cutting video. The wrist pin bearing gave up on me. This is a first for me. I guess it was bound to happen if I kept playing Chinese chainsaw roulette. Piston is toast and cylinder...

    My latest project

Got the saw back together and it holds a tune on the high side now. I think it was the kinked impulse line. I modified the air filter base. Now I have to make something to hold the air filter cover on and it will be time for a video. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

    My latest project

Passed the vac and pressure test. I did find that the impulse line was kinked. I'm hoping that is my fuel issue. Now I just have to rob a worm gear from another 660 and get this bmf back together. Sent from my SM-G930V using Tapatalk

    My latest project

Well I hot to crank the saw tonight, but I think I have an air leak or a fuel delivery issue. I have it tore down now to do a vacuum test just to eliminate the air leak idea. I'm not sure if that's the problem because it idles great, like a stock saw. The saw tuned at first on the high side but...

Your right, flooding wouldn't be a symptom of an air leak, but a carb that needs rebuilding could still flood a saw with an air leak if the inlet needle is stuck open. Definitely need to sort out the fuel delivery issue before worrying about an air leak. I was just giving you a heads up on...

I would start by rebuilding the zama carb that you had on the saw initially. I've done a few of those 55/51 saws, and have found that taking a good cut off the base can cause some real problems with the poorly designed carb mount, intake boot, and impulse grommet. If you reuse the old intake...
