How many saws would you own if you didn't heat with wood?

Id own just 1: a small homeowner saw in the 35cc-45cc range, just to clean up any trees that might get knocked over by a storm.

Ebay saws, are they safe to buy?

Last winter I bought an Echo CS-520 off of Ebay for $300. When it arrived the saw was spotlessly clean and didnt appear to have much run time on it. After cutting several truckloads of wood with it and having absolutely no problems whatsoever; I have no regrets.

    Stihl vs Husqy

With a sharp chain the cutting speed should be the same, but by the end of the day the Stihl will be the faster saw. Husky uses Oregon chains, which dont hold their edge as long as Stihl chains do. Oregon is a good chain, but its soft.

    Trimmer choice

Anything in Echo. Echo has forgotten more about making trimmers than Stihl, Husky or Honda will ever know...

    If Stihl......

Yup because at it's worst, it would still be better than anything Husky has ever made...

    4-Stroke String Trimmer?

Yup, thats the Honda Ive got. Its not so much the weight, its the balance. The rear part of trimmer where the engine is weighs noticably more than does the front. I didnt think the weight was that bad either until last summer I used my brother's 20cc Echo trimmer. Just as much power but...

SIL's boyfriend wants to borrow a saw...

Usually I say, "no" to things like this. Even if its someone I trust, if something happens to the saw feelings and going to get hurt and its just going to cause drama. I would gladly go cut whatever someone needs cut, but I really dont like to loan my equipment out.

    4-Stroke String Trimmer?

Ive got a 25cc Honda trimmer. Its a nice trimmer with good power, sips fuel and starts easily; but its heavy. It is pretty quiet at idle, but once you wind it up its just as loud as any 2-stroke trimmer. I personally wouldnt own another 4-stroke trimmer for the simple reason of the weight...

if you only had one, what would it be; maul or axe

Axe. Its more versatile than a maul.

What is the harm of running to rich of an oil mixture?

There really isnt much harm that would be done, but the saw wont run as crisp, you may foul a plug every now and then and there will be more deposits in the combustion chamber. I know people who still mix their 2-cycle gas at 32:1 (even though it calls for 50:1) with no ill effects. I'll take...

What kind of saws did your dad run ...

My dad owns Stihls and it has absolutely no bearing on what saws I own. Im my own man and I have a mind of my own.

too late for next winters wood?

As long as you stack it off on pallats and keep it covered, it should be dry by the time winter gets here. The key is to keep it off the ground so that it cant draw any moisture from the ground and to keep it covered so that it doesnt get rained on and so that it bakes all summer long and dries...

Help me decide, Echo or Stihl?

Ive owned both Stihls and Echos and I can tell you that the Stihl will has slightly more power but the Echo will start easier. Id personally buy the Echo because it has a 5-year warranty and a lifetime warranty on the ignition module, but both are quality saws that will last a long time.

Best 50cc saw in the world

I bought my Echo CS-520 off of Ebay last winter for $300. It always starts on the 2nd pull and will cut just as fast as an MS 260 (not to mention it starts a lot easier than a 260 does).

    Ideal Bar Size

It depend what Im cutting. On my Echo CS-520, I prefer to use the 16" bar because it cuts faster with that bar and because the shorter bar makes the saw easier to handle. Ive also got a 20" bar for my 520 and while the saw pulls just fine with that bar on it, I dont use the 20" unless Im...

    Storing Saws

I drain the gas out of mine and run them dry. That way the carburator doesnt get all gummed up.

    echo 520

My 520 pulls the 20" bar just fine, but I find the 16" to make the saw a little easier to handle when bucking and limbing. No sense in running the longer bar if Im bucking pieces that are shorter than 16". I know that people on here have an attitude that Echos are slow, but my 520 runs head to...

    echo 520

I hear ya. Now that Ive got a 16" bar for my CS-520 I dont even use my Stihl 021 anymore. The 520 is so much faster, especially with the 16" bar and isnt all that much heavier than the 021.
