    What is pine going for these days?

    This is a wide spread thing, Mills have shut down here in arkansas due to the lumber market, anybody think its caused by the high cost of shiping, fuel is so out of control they have to compensate somehow. Our mill is still taking logs full bore but its got to catch up to them eventually.

    The American Loggers Council and Louisana Forestry Association has a toll free number to get help from loggers everywhere for the timber recovery, for anyone interested its 1-866-706-8869, this is a three state recovery mostly in Mississippi, but Louisiana and Alabama too.

    Reminds me of the tree i cut last winter, nice 20' pine, cut it bucked it, went to the landing, when i got to the landing they had it set out, some deer hunter had spiked a later about ten foot up the tree, it was kinda viney so i didnt see them, got lucky didnt hit them

    Saw head for obvious reasons, the 460 does good in the mud but has limitations, last winter we had two on the job the one i was running has 35s the other had flotations, he could go where i could'nt even begin and if i did he could'nt get back thru it.

    Hey Brian, If your going ouy west, Columbia Helicopter is worth checking into, there out of Portland Oregon, and work all over the west coast. They have their own cutters and their own training program, i know people that work for them they do pretty well. just a little info.

    Pine blues fast in the heat, during the ice storm in 2000 the us forest service did all the red tape the government usually does and most of it was left to rot, and were talking hundreds of loads.

    Don't know about the the sixties, but when i started cutting in Northern Cal. around 77 Mac 125 were still around, but the Husky 2100 explosion was underway, they were lighter and you could do more in big timber.

    Well cutting was getting too slow and the money was'nt their anymore and after 26 years full time cutting it was time for a change. I'm running a 380 timberjack grapple, its different but not bad.

    Hey Rob, congrads on getting to be a dad, Still logging but quit cutting about a year ago, been skidding behind a hydro-axe , longer hours but the money good.
