Do I need more than just a rope to climb?

Yeah, they're not fun to hang in for very long. No worse than the seats tied by the folks in those two videos though....

Do I need more than just a rope to climb?

As shown in those videos, yes, it's possible to just use one rope. Adding a length of 1" webbing (for a Swiss seat), a carabiner and a 4-5' length of smaller diameter rope would make things significantly more streamlined and efficient for those folks.

Do I need more than just a rope to climb?

I did. He mentioned a rope in the post but then asked. The answer to that is nothing. You don't need any equipment to "experience a climb" of a small tree. Pick one with branches and climb it. I have a really hard time believing that there are any experienced climbers here who have never...

Do I need more than just a rope to climb?

He asked if it was possible to climb a small tree without spending money. I reminded him, (or perhaps it was new information) that people have been doing just that for a very long time. I suppose I could have just said, "yes, it's possible to climb a tree without spending money", but that would...

Do I need more than just a rope to climb?

Way back in the olden days, before kids grew up with their face glued to screens, we used to climb trees all the time using nothing but what the gods gave us. It's safer to use the "proper" gear, of course, but folks have been climbing trees for thousands of years without it.

Yup. Just went and checked mine. Made in the US since at least Nov of 2019.

    Dump insert for chip box?

What's your budget for this project? Do you have steel fabrication capabilities? Best option is a bigger truck with a chip box, but if that's not in the budget, a dumping flatbed on the 3/4 ton is the smallest option I'd consider. Then start saving for a more appropriate truck.

    Shopping for new helmet

My mistake. They talk about the helmet "leaving their Texas facilities". Bit disingenuous, if you ask me. I've got one and it works. Not the most comfortable helmet I've owned but it's not bad.

How d'you dry out your climbing gear?

I have rows of screws in the joists above and around the wood stove. Clothes, ropes, rigging gear, ratchet straps, fresh furs, towels etc. etc. all get dried on them.

Ideas on how to sell a Tree Care business?

My questions as well. Also, if the certified arborist is retiring, that part of the value is no longer there, or did I misunderstand something?

    Advice/suggestions for a Newbie

I'd go with either the 260 or the Echo and go to a 16 in bar. Do a compression test on the Stihl before buying, if you can. I would stay away from the Olympyk's, not because they're bad saws (I have no idea, no experience with them) but because, IMO, "good condition" means it's ready to use and...

Anyone know of a company or place that is equivalent to a wood chipper junkyard?

I know of an Amish machine shop in Ohio that could probably make it for a reasonable price. Don't know if it would be done in a month though. You'd have a couple weeks just in shipping ( I imagine they'd want the old part to measure).

Weight of exactly 1 face cord of split & seasoned oak firewood ?

I don't think anyone was saying it was a "unicorn" measurement, just that the definition isn't the same everywhere and by everyone. I've talked to folks who defined it like you do, some define it as "any stack of wood", some define it as "a stack of wood, of any length, that measures 4x8 on the...

    Minimum amount to run saws?

Could be, although it could be argued that temp swings have more negative effects than consistent temps one way or the other. It's quite common for us to have 20-30 degree (or more) swings in temperature in a 12 hour period. We've had as much as a 75 degree swing in temperature in a few days. I...

    Minimum amount to run saws?

I've had saws sit for over a year and then start up and run like new. The key is to use non ethanol gas.

    Ash tree Borer

Your location and pictures of the tree might be helpful. In many areas, ash trees that are as far gone as yours sounds like it is (you mentioned hollow limbs in your other post) are pretty much toast.

    Groundie Boots

Lowa Zephyr would fit the bill, other than being a bit higher price. They're one of the few European boot makers who make a non waterproof hiking style boot. That's what I wear for about half the year. Great, durable, comfortable boots...

Weight of exactly 1 face cord of split & seasoned oak firewood ?

It's amazed me for years how many customers I encountered while selling firewood who had no idea how to calculate the volume of a cube. The concept that 128 cubic feet of wood didn't have to be in a 4'x4'x8' stack to be measured was beyond many people's understanding.
