The chain was manufactured by ATLAS CHAIN CO. LTD. and known as V-PAC part no B50W. It changed hands and became KOLVE Chain Co. http://www.acresinternet.com/cscc.nsf/50ac4dce14fd414088256e0e005fa3f7/441154967019611288256e17005fcbe5?OpenDocument

when is a fuel mixture considered old?

If you use ASPEN Professional Small Engine fuel you can leave it sit in your chain saw for 5 years with no worry of deterioration or damage to fuel system components. It has been on the market in Sweden for over 35 years. Also no cancer causing agents in the exhaust.

    Remington Chainsaws(including Mall chainsaws)

Someone has put a stack exhaust on that saw which is not stock. They had a proper muffler with baffle.

The PL-4 is the same size engine as a Super XL-12 Homelite so that long a bar is for visual use only.

    Remington Chainsaws(including Mall chainsaws)

The saw pictured is a gear drive. Whatever engine rpm I listed in my web page came from factory literature or owners manuals, service manuals. The wrap around handlebars were standard as those saws were meant to be used on large timber.

    Pioneer chainsaws

Another little bit of trivia about the family of saws starting with the P40. The P40 started with 5/16 in. bar studs and no chain brake. Later in the production a chain brake was added with holes matching the 5/16 in. studs. Then the stud size was changed to 3/8 in. The P41, P50, P60 and...

    mall chain saws

Re: chain for Mall model 11 chain saw. I do not know of any source of chain to fit the Mall 11. Mall made their own chain and sprockets and they had to match. If one wanted to put an Oregon chain on the saw the sprocket had to be changed to get a match.

I show the XF as being a breaker point igntion system. I wonder if they did not export ones with electronic ignition or were they retro-fitted by dealers.

I can see this is going on for a long time. Partner introduced electronic ignition in the R-14T in 1966 Which model of Jonsered do you figure had the first Electronic ignition or are we only talking about two piece systems? I have the Jonsered 70 as the first electronic model in their line.

OK Then I would guess that it is an R-40T model.

    partner P100 any good?

The Partner P-100 chain saw was the Partner K-1200 cut-off saw. Most parts are still available. Good reliable engine.

My guess would be a model R-40 which is 100cc. They had that hand guard. The R-40T had a thyristor electronic ignition the R-40 was breaker points. The serial number does not tell you anything as to the model. With those saws it is detective work by looking at the improvements that were...
