Another [Dolmar Dealer] bites the Dust

Yes, this is a good thread. A lot of truth being told here. I do not believe Dolmar is really going anywhere as things are. Maybe down hill a little though. I sell them too (not many). No one has heard of them. They are a really hard sell and I do not think the name helps them either (It even...

    $150 fuel line replacement

I believe you will find that very few experienced techs doing daily repairs use a comp tester on a chainsaw. Actually I would question a tech that said he needed to get a comp reading before a repair as I would know he had very little experience in the real world. A good one could tell if...

Spacer For Pulling Bar Bolts? 288XP

Be sure the stud bases are in the right position inside the crankcase, there is a slot they fit into. Drain all the oil out and look through the oil filler hole to make sure. You can also drive them into position through the oil hole. You can ruff them up with a hack saw, a couple shallow...

    Inside the 372XP X-TORQ

We use to have all customers sign a form stating the saws that were modified were for competition use only and also not fire safe. We never had any problems, but that was a while ago and things have changed. I don't think I would use the term "woods ported" anymore.

    Inside the 372XP X-TORQ

I am no attorney, but as there are laws against it I would think it would make a case against someone easier to prove. As I am sure you know in 2010 the EPA regs of small engines really took hold as did the potential fines for tampering with them. As far as the laws being enforced, a lot...

    Inside the 372XP X-TORQ

HAHAHA. It's all good Tommy Boy, I just wanted to make sure his question got answered. I don't have a dog in this fight. The laws against it are there though. Now enforcement of those laws? I don't know. But the possibility is there.

    Inside the 372XP X-TORQ

This is from the EPA questions and answers from the New Small Engine Emission Rules Section. I do not have the time to chase down a statute number and fines listed, but I am sure they have one to prosecute on and it could be found. They surely can fine you even from a consumer standpoint. They...

    Some questions for you dealers...

I have been reading this thread and you have been givin some good advise. I will not go into prouduct lines or the other things that have been covered. I have a lot of experience in this business and have been running my own for almost 3 years now after coming from a couple family owned...

Troy-Bilt would fill the low cost push and rider market for you. Also wood splitters and tillers and other products. Not hard to get into either.

    Square grinders

I picked up a Neilson/Bell K-6 a couple months ago for $350.00 delivered to me off craigslist. When the guy brought it down I about tore my a** off my pants getting to my wallet when I seen how good of condition it was in. I have used these grinders for years and there is no better period...

Stihl 131 pole pruner valve adjustment?

.004 of an inch or .10 mm cold. The Stihl special tool is needed or your going to have to grind a tip into a .004 feeler guage to get into the cupped rocker arms.

three old chainsaws - $25 (albanys)

I seen the ad posted in the morning. Albany is about a half hour from here. If I had not been the only one at the shop yesterday I would have snagged them. :(

    576xp handle question?

It is just a limiter so you do not stretch the anti-vibe springs to much. It is supose to be that way.

To warm up or not ?

I have never seen that happen in over 20 years of working on chainsaws. I know around here a lot of people like to talk about it like it's the gospel. I doubt anyone has ever really seen this happen on a chainsaw. Believe me, once combustion starts inside that engine everything warms up pretty fast.

    Husqvarna 181

It's just like getting rid of any govenor, you can set your hi speed rpms where you wanna instead of the govenor doing it for you. Are you sure your 181 even has one?

    Husqvarna 181

If your 181 has a fuel govenor or "blubber jet" as we called them, you can bypass it by pulling the brass screw head out and putting either a small welch plug down in the bottom or a little toilet paper down there then put the screw back in. We use to do it all the time. I'm kind of thinking the...

    Ordering parts from your dealer

Most people do not understand the distributors these days use "shipping" as a way to make more money off the shops. The minimum shipping charges, the handling charges, the fuel sur charges, ect. All of them have pretty high minimum orders to get free shipping and not everything is eligible...
