    Woodburning, health interest

I'm with vincent. I wouldn't be too surprised to see some gas (as in LP/natural) companies behind that research. Too bad that they failed to factor in how much particulate pollution comes from burning coal in power plants and factories.

Why do people cut like this??

I'm still trying to figure out why you would cut the sides of the hinge off.

    thinking of rebuilding 044???

I've picked up a few used Stihl's to play with, thinking I would save money by getting a used saw that needs a little work. By the time you get done its easy to have more into a used Stihl than what a new one would cost. Especially since most parts are dealer only.

    "Unleaded Fuel Only" Warnings

I'm sure there is some kind of law that they have to put that warning somewhere.

    side tensioning bars

I have a friend that got one of the Craftsman by Poulan saws with it...About the only way I could figure out to get the chain tensioned right is to use the scrench in the bar slot, hold tension on it with one hand and use a ratchet/socket to tighten the bar nuts.

    What is that odor??

I'm surprised no one has suggested that maybe there was more than just wood in that fire...throwing some trash in the fire would certainly add to the odor...

    Check out this splitter!

Looks like the throw might be a bit short for those that cut longer than 16-18"

    Wood heat, chimneys. Worth it?

Granted I have access to all the wood I need, and wood only costs my time and gas to harvest/haul/split it. That said, 5 years ago, I installed a wood stove with a triple wall SS chimney (all labor done myself with a little help from friends). It paid for itself the first winter in saved...

    bare feet sawing

Wouldnt you think if you were gonna video yourself running your saws that you would have warmed them up first so they start right up?... Course if I was gonna video myself running a saw, I would have put some shoes on at least..

Pole Barns - not totally Off Topic

If you're like me and can't ever seem to get anything level/square, you may want to see if you can hire someone to set the posts. If they are set square and plumb then everything else is easy.

need help looking at a new saw...

Go ask the dealer if they have a demo saw you can try out for the weekend. Best way to find out if you like it or not.

    Hand Splitters....HELP!!!!!!!!!!

I had the head come off my fiberglass handled maul this year (after years of abuse). I put the head in the vise and used a small chisel to chip out the old epoxy, and replaced it with a wood handle because that is what I could find in this area.

J.M. Browning's response thoughts on "Ax Men"

"reality", huh. If they wanted reality, they would have asked permission to film, and then showed up and filmed whatever was going on without sticking their noses in. I was lucky enough to meet some "old time" loggers from eastern Oregon years ago (about 20yrs ago now). I learned a lot...
