35 year old father of 5 killed

A 35 year old father of 5 young adopted children was killed last week near Longwood Pa. I never did see a news article about this but it was a Tree company from Lancaster county Pa just down the road from me. 3 man crew doing some large removals and had most of the "difficult" trees done when...

    Cleaning wood stove glass doors

Something I found out by accident, is baby wipes. i have two kids in diapers and we always have plenty around. Works good even on the real thick stuff. If that fails then a light scrape with a razor blade.

    Wood ID please (apple?)

I agree, it is apple and can be tuff to split. The apple i have burned burns very well but it seems like I get alot of ash from it if the fire is choked down. Great score for free wood.

    Who's running a Shindaiwa?

757 here, I bought it to replace my trashed 046 stihl. Good saw for all the more I run it. If I ever went back to fulltime timber cutting I would get another stihl and keep the 757 as a backup. Several years ago I had a 488, loved that saw, but had to let it go to get some $$$. Young and dunb I...

    Firewood worth more than Logs

YEP, I also heard that it is hardley worth cutting saw logs right. The only bright spot it seems is that at least in my neck of the woods, pulp logs are going up in price because there is not much logging, so not many cull logs being cut for pulp. I went past a mill that runs softwood through a...

In the 5 years I've been selling to him never a single complaint. And as far as payment goes I always...

    Old wifes tale

I've never heard that it is hard to burn but an old timer friend of mine swears it is bad luck to burn a tree hit by lightning. He is so scared by this that any tree on his wood lot that gets hit he will cut down and drag way back in or bury it so no one else will get it to burn.:dizzy:

At a large nursery/landscape supply center near my place they get large quantities of wood in bulk and it comes on a semi but in a dump trailer. The kind used for demo work real heavy duty. I don't have an idea of how many cords they bring in at a time but the trailers are definatley not full as...

    Dormant oil

If I remember correct dormant oil is a dilluted coating that you sray on trees to smother any egg sacks or larvae . It is best used in late winter early spring before buds are on the tree and before insects become active. It is used as a preventive spray for insects.

How do you think the wood heat "newbies" did this past season?

First year burning, went through about 7 cords was only planning on 5 or 6 but we made it. Only used about 100 gallons of oil. Wish I would of bought the next size bigger stove. I have a regency medium size and the door opening is a little small. The good thing with the door being smaller I...

Pre-qualify dealers more, Here the local hardware, paint, appliance, household goods etc. etc. store is the local dealer. The store seems to think if they can put a sign out front and a few saws on the shelf that they are golden. What a joke!:dizzy:
