    Birch firewood

Yepp, birch really have to be seasoned to be efficient firewood, and then it is pretty good too

    Birch firewood

That's a great point. High combustion temperature is the key to low soot emissions.

    White birch for firewood

Rotting i mainly a problem on brich long logs. If already cut into short log firewood, and stored for good seasoning and ventilation, it is less of a problem.

log splitter 2 small rams vs 1 big ram

His setup with a single stage pump at 25gpm and 3000psi, is actually going to be more efficient than a system with a equal 25gpm two-stage pump. But overall fuel economy might have been better with a small BS engine and a two-stage pump. A single stage pump setup like this, with an overkill...

log splitter 2 small rams vs 1 big ram

You have to decide system pressure before thinking about what your splitting force is going to be with a 4" cylinder. And the main point in the system pressure is the pump. A barnes two-stage pump is rated for max 3000psi. That will make 18.8 ton with a 4" cylinder. Then your power source will...

Barnes/concentric 28gpm. what port is what?

22 and 28 gpm pumps are the D series Inlet next to the big hex (high stage adjustment screw)... The outlet only on the opposite side... See page #4 in this pdf... http://www.concentricab.com/_downloads/Catalogs/HILO_PUMP_US.pdf

log splitter 2 small rams vs 1 big ram

First of all, we do not have all cards in the deck face up. To many assumptions about the back ground facts. If that can of Heinz beans is a 15oz can, its diameter is 2 7/8". The cylinders on the image seem to be 1/4" less diameter than the can.... The cylinder bore could be closer to 2" than...

Anyone else turn the file during the stroke?

There can be several individual different reasons why a chain does not cut straight. One side is dull or less sharp than the other One side has shorter cutters than the other side One side has cutters at different angles than the other side One side haa depth gauge higher than the other side...

Anyone else turn the file during the stroke?

Loggers back in Sweden in the 1960's though 1974's were felling for logging de-limbers (cut to length processors) in clearcut logging, and they were 100% paid per tree. Many logger took risky shortcuts in saftey to make a great payday. Taking down the rakers was one of them. After the logger...

Anyone else turn the file during the stroke?

I went a logging show yesterday, and I talked to a few people about this, and some of the most experienced loggers and competitors, eliminate the rakers from their chains. They have a feel for how to keep their saw RPM at max torque when cutting.... Starting from scratch with a new chain, and...

    Fiskars Splitting Axes

We had a Grand Opening of a Harbor Freight Tools here in town last Tuesday... I got myself a 1x30" belt sander for $45 that I have been eye-balling for a while. Added some more super fine grit, 300-600-800-1200-3000, belts from www.trugrit.com, including a leather stropping belt. Works...

Anyone else turn the file during the stroke?

Yes, I see your point, and at least it will rest on two corners instead of one... If we damage the corner like this, what happens with the chrome plating? I assume it wants to stretch, but can't and it will crack on one or more spots. And tihs dulled corner will become even mor dull faster...

Anyone else turn the file during the stroke?

@Whitespider , I think your link got lost in the "stars"...LOL...I have been there picking up imaged on a Google image search...It's no good link if it don't ends with ".jpg" or ".gif" etc But these guides they are still sitting on the top corner of the cutter... The there is another thing...

Anyone else turn the file during the stroke?

OTE="Oldman47, post: 5353850, member: 129543"]You think that's tough, try turning one in a Granberg file-n-joint. That's is the only thing that bugs me about the Granberg type of filing guides. They lock up the file. If the "Granberg" allowed the file to rotate, and get in and out easy and...

Anyone else turn the file during the stroke?

One of the reason current file cuts better when turning the file counter clockwise on a right hand cutter edge, is that the file dust get out of the working file grades/"teeth"... There is always fresh and clean file grades put into work....

Anyone else turn the file during the stroke?

I am kinda semi-serious...Here is an image showing the difference in "file attack" with current file design vs how another mirror designed file would do on the opposite side....
