    Typical 'Harry Homeowner' post:

What colors can I get this saw in? How often do I have to change the oil? Does this "hurt" the tree? (as if a tree feels pain when being sawed) Will this electric saw do alright cutting firewood this winter?

    Octane Effects

The old Lady and me stopped in at L&G distillery last year. Pretty nice place, pretty decent whiskey too. A feller could probably find a place to tree a coon around your house couldn't he?:D

    Octane Effects

Another thought on octane: It is measured in different ways, if you look on a gas pump it says R+M/2 method. All gas used in automobiles is supposed to be measured this way. Aviation fuel is measured diffrently, using only one of the two measurements. You get a artifically high octane...

and now the myth falls and truth wins the day

I think those stickers are just to show how long a saw is expected to be within emissions standards without a rebuild being done. It might be a different sticker than I am thinking of though.

    ice storm work

Eastern KY was hit very hard too. Not much of a market for cleanup folk though. I have found some nice logs that I intend to "cleanup" for some people. :D

    fire wood prices

A big ice storm came thru this area last weekend (2-14) and knocked a lot of hardwood down in very accessible areas. Basically, you can't give a load of firewood away here right now. I have happened across several nice logs that people want taken away, so I guess it all evens out.:D

    Who makes Craftsman saws?

Sounds like what I expected. Still not a bad saw for $20. Needed fuel, bar oil, and the chain hit a few licks with a file.:D

    Who makes Craftsman saws?

My brother just bought a nice little craftsman saw that is about 8-10 years old. It is very well made and cuts like a real winner. I looked it over and couldn't find a tag that told who made it. Just kinda curious who made it and if they are a decent saw. Does one company make all craftsman...

    anatomy of a burndown

The O-ring showed no damage at all, even after we were able to hear air puffing around it. The way the banshee engine is designed leaves areas 2 inches or more without a water jacket thru it. The water jackets are kinda like this ( ) The warpage was occuring in one of those areas...

    anatomy of a burndown

His Banshee used a aftermarket head that also used O-rings. It was a super-high quality head, just the bad one out of the bunch I guess. Thats a whompin air compressor for sure. How were you able to handle the engine with it hot enough to distort metal? Also, did you do the test right...

    anatomy of a burndown

what temp was the engine during the leakdown test? A friend of mine has a Yamaha Banshee quad that he races, it is a twin cylinder and he had exactly the same problem you have had. He did a leakdown test and it passed with flying colors, trouble is, he did it with a cold engine. Come to find...

    How are 346xp's holding up?

Just curious how everyone that owns one likes it after using it for a while? What are their strengths and weakness' over time? I'm thinking about getting one and want to make sure that its not another 031av. LOL!

    Splitting Wood

I got some Chinese Chestnut a couple years ago, cut into stove lengths and split it into quarters. It stayed in my wood shed where the sun hit on it for the majority of a days time and no rain ever hit it. I got a few sticks of it out to burn last week and it wouldn't even offer to catch fire...

    Favorite Bar Length

I like to use a 18 to 20 incher for general farm use. I rarely find myself needing anything larger.

    Installing electronic module on 031

I must be the only person on earth with a 031av that still has a good coil! :D

How Many Working Saws do you Own?

Does running a few seconds at a time count? I've got 10 Homelites of various models and vintages that will run if you aren't asking for much. I've got one that is in wood cutting form and I finally got my Stihl 031av running.

    Walbro carb parts

Does anyone know where I can order a spring for the carb on my 031av? I tried to get one at a local Stihl dealer and they said they couldn't even order one. Its the spring that is on the otherside of the lever from the needlevalve. I have tried to scavenge one but cant find the right one. It...

    Truckload of logs?

There is an 8ft seam of coal that runs under about half of our entire farm. There are several places that my family has dug coal by hand for generations. We usually take a tractor and a grader blade and knock the dirt back, bust out as much coal as we think we need for a winter, then cover it...

    Logger's glossary

I kinda figured it was a mythical creature similiar to a unicorn except, instead of a horn coming out of its head it has a Stihl 066. It roams the land in search of its food, the rare 10' DBH oak. Then again, its 1am, I may be a little too tired to think straight.:D

    White Cedar Question

Not sure about white cedar but I always cut a red cedar to split into kindling. I don't waste a bit of it, I strip the twigs and limbs leaves and all for very fine kindling, cut the trunk into chunks then split it into the kindling. It catches fire really easily and burns quickly, perfect for...
