    2018’ Upstate NY GTG

Bring protective gear if you want to do any cutting. Bring saws if you want to. Otherwise it's just a great time hanging out, breathing 2-stroke exhaust, and having fun. I'm not gonna miss it this year. Usually, around a hundred or more folks and several hundred saws, and a bunch of other...

    2018’ Upstate NY GTG

I am really looking forward to this year, having been forced to miss last year's event. I will be there!

    Need opinions on trade deal..

Um, nope. The bar and spike are fine, it's the powerhead that is on upside down.

    Need opinions on trade deal..

I wouldn't trade a Winchester 88 for any chainsaw, unless the gun was junk.

Upstate NY GTG 16' - Sunday April 24th - Greenwich, NY (Albany)

Right on the NYS line, about 10 miles north of Bennington. We haven't gotten more than about 3" of snow all winter, and it lasted less than two weeks.

Snow? Wazzat? We haven't had any significant snow this winter at all. Today was almost 70 degrees.

Wood Chips In My iPhone Jacks

Otter Box Commuter case on my iPhone 6+. I get chips and dust stuck to the screen protector occasionally, but the little rubber tabs cover all the I/O ports nicely. Having a phone on you is a safety thing - not a distraction. You can set it on vibrate and don't have to answer calls. It's for...

Need help with my setup (OWB)

Thanks for doing the math, and for not picking on me...:) What I failed to mention is that the house is 10 years old, the basement is Reward ICF's with 2-1/2" of foam insulation on either side of the concrete wall, and the house is a timber frame with structural insulated panel walls and roof -...

Need help with my setup (OWB)

I have been heating my house in VT for 11 years with a CB 5648, with an 80' run of 1" PEX and less than 2' elevation change. My circulator pumps are Taco 007's - off the shelf at any plumbing or big-box store. The house is a basement with radiant tubing in the slab, plus two currently...

    Looking at a Dolmar PS421

My Dolmar 421 is my go-to saw for most of my firewood cutting. I have a 16" Oregon Pro-Lite bar and .325 LP chain on it. It won't outcut my Stihl MS361 but then again, it's a lot lighter and easier to sling around. There is no good reason not to buy that saw if you want one.

What happened? Smoke coming out of relief vent on owb

Sure it wasn't steam? My OWB does that all the time (steam, that is).

Upstate NY GTG 16' - Sunday April 24th - Greenwich, NY (Albany)

He loves it. Hasn't even used it yet though. :innocent: He got quite a bit of trigger time on both mine and my brother's 421's so he sure won't be disappointed.

I'm not gonna miss this year's GTG. Especially considering I'm only 25 miles away.

    Leaking Central Boiler OWB

Thanks for the responses, guys. Did not think of air testing it, I am sure I can rig something up in the spring to run an air test if I don't find the leak by then. I'm pretty sure it's near the bottom of the water jacket.

Boiler Guys....Keep a Spare Circulating Pump on Hand and Know How to Change It

Just another observation, having been there myself: when keeping a spare pump, it really doesn't matter what model it is, as long as it fits the system. I have 007, 009 and 0010 pumps in my system, and had to replace the 0010 last year about this time as it crapped out on a Sunday evening when...

Pallets - how do you burn them?

I get a fair number from work. I have to share with others but I normally can get a dozen every three months. It's enough to sort out the best ones to stack my firewood on, and I usually burn the rest. I have a good-sized OWB so I usually just hack them in rough thirds with a cordless sawzall...

    Leaking Central Boiler OWB

Started a new thread because the others on this subject were pretty old. My CB 5648 (built 2004) is leaking and I am looking for a way to chase down the leak. I am getting water dripping underneath the pump area. It's enough where the water level drop is noticeable over a shorter time period...

Who sells Lockharts Firewood Grippers other than Baileys?

I have the Timber Tuff model and think it's great. It's worth considering if you can't find the other one.

How young is too young ?

Ten is too young to run a chainsaw. I believe a kid has to have not only the maturity and common sense to do so, and be able to learn proper procedures and safety (and retain them in the brain!), but have the physical capabilities to run that saw as well. My oldest two boys (ages 23 and 20)...

    Gas can for chainsaw

Another thumbs-up vote. I have one, 2.5 gallon can for pre-mix gas and a yellow 5-gallon one for diesel. The only time I spill a drop is when I make a mistake. I used to use Blitz cans but I can't find the old-school replacement spouts anymore, so I got rid of most of them. No-Spills are...
