    Generator and sizing

i just upgraded the panel in my house last year and looked high and low for one of those bent sheet metal pieces that are probably in the $5-10 range. they don’t seem to sell them around here anymore, instead they have a nice $300 transfer switch. i was not happy about it but talking with the...

    fire starters

a few scraps, a shot of lamp oil and a hit from the propane torch. i was making the fire starters from old candles, dryer lint, saw dust and egg cartons but ran out of old candles. now with the lamp oil it is even faster and easier.

Everyone get their milk and bread

i have to run out to get eggs everyday! the chickens prefer them to be out of the way to lay more. lol to many people live day to day, you should be able to support yourself for at least a week or two at a moments notice. disasters happen, its not that hard to stock up over time and be prepaired.

Out of fuel oil and I don't want to fill it. Wood power activate!

oil ran out in my house about 4 years ago, now my wife thinks it gets cold in the house if i dip below 70. a couple of cealing fans in the living room is all we need in our open ranch house plan to heat it all nicely. i figure the wood stove payed for itself the first year we got it, that was...

    Crazy about Creosote

its a free country this guy can still do what he wants, but being free there can be consequences to pay for. like mentioned it might be a good idea to have someone else’s opinion step in to help bolster yours. this guy is literally playing with fire and his house and family are involved. my...

McGuire Stoves take delivery of first professionally built factory stove prototype

I am not a regular viewer but i have seen several episodes. They seem to review wither or not the company/person is worth investing, not if product works or not. Obviously it better work for them to invest but many have walked out with working products they didn’t feel the need to invest in. I...

Check this thing out if you have a lot of small diameter wood

looks like it could be used for bio mass or a wood gassification set up. i remember reading an article in mother earth news i think it is of a guy who did that. had an old dump truck rear axle with paddles welded to the wheel. he would feed the wood into that to make 1-2" chunks while it was...

McGuire Stoves take delivery of first professionally built factory stove prototype

i withholding judgment but can he show how the stove works in a basic format? i am not expecting detailed plans to build it but a simple break down of how it functions would be interesting to see. i would guess it to be something similar to a cat stove but don't want to assume. you know what...

Starting a processor build.. pictures..FINALLY FINISHED!!

well i used this method of getting a broken off spark plug out of my motorcycle. i greased up a sharp drill bit and went just a little at a time. the grease would catch the shavings, i would clean it off and go again. it took a while but i got it. of coarse i could also fire up the engine on 3...

    Is your stove keeping up?

i am falling behind some with my woodstove, got an Englander NC30. have an old poorly insulated ranch house with new windows. i load it up around 7 am and get home around 4, i am usually in the high 60's when i get home unless its one of those high of 4 deg days with wind. then it can get down...

The not-so-difficult to run EPA stove

i dont have the same stove but i have found my NC30 from Home Depot to run about the same. got a good 8 years or so burning as a primary heat soarce with it. the wifey likes it about 75 in the house and you know what they say about a happy wife! heck the real test was when my M-I-L could run...

that guy was just making kindling, its nice to see in action but i would rather see what it could or could not do with some bigger rounds that are not as straight.

    wanted free firewood

i might have to check this guy out looks like he is about 20 min from me! i like free wood but i always expect to be the one to cut it, load it and clean up after myself. sorry i dont have any extra, i should be just good myself as long as no more "Poler Vortexes" sit over us again. i think i...

What size log splitter do I really need?

i have the 27ton MTD and it has worked great for me splitting about 10 cords a year between me and family. i have had it about 7 years now with no problems. there is a weak spot in the way the cylinders mount though since there are lugs welded to the side of it. they can crack out and fail on...

So happy I heat with wood.

look up a Roku, we ditched cable and using that with a good old fashon antenna we get all that we need for tv watching and now pay about 30 a month. i love my wood stove, we can loose power on a regular basis and i have no concerns with heating the house. even then i still have a genorator...

    Viper lift

i think it would be cheaper to find a harbor freight near you and get one of there bed lifts. not as fancy but around 150 if i remember right. or if you are handy with a welder i have heard of guys converting engine cherry pickers to work in a truck. i am not a big fan of putting all that load...
